Most likely the squeal is actually the compressor clutch u may be able to get an aftermarket clutch but it requires special tools to remove and install and u would still have to remove the compressor for the little bit of price difference i would replace the compressor and the belt

That's what I figured, thanks for confirming!!!

It could also be the belt. IIRC, the A/C has a V-belt separate from the serpentine belt. The V-belt may either need tightening or replacing.

Are you sure it is the compressor? Sounds like belts, try using a bar of soap to quiet them down. j
Just carefully hold to inside of belt while running engine.

SOURCE: AC Clutch bearing on Suburban making racket, loose

You can buy a bypass pulley for about 40 bucks and lose the ac, or you can replace the clutch only with one from a used unit( req's snap ring pliers and some dexterity) if you don't want to remove the compressor and have to recharge the refrigerant.

SOURCE: Ac compressor won't kick on

Just had the same issue and posted. Just found the solution is the control module in the dash. Went to the junk yard since new is expensive on these units. Plugged new unit in, was able to charge a/c now blows cold as ice.

If the noise is the ac clutch bearing you can replace the ac clutch without replacing the compressor on most models.

Ac compressor not clutching

time for a new compressor. It's a magnetically controlled belt driven compressor. If it isn't clutching anymore, it's dead. pretty soon it'll start squealing or making other funky noises if it isn't completely dead yet, then soon you'll press the "ac" button and nothing will happen.

CAN THE SERPENTINE BELT BE REROUTED TO BYPASS THE A/C COMPRESSOR?

No. The bearing on the compressor can be replaced without buying an entire compressor.

Belts have been changed still get high pitch squealing seems to be when ac is on but not all of the time not sure what to do 2004 kia spectra

Hale,
It could be either the compressor for the AC is slowly ceazing, or the tension idle bearing has to much of a load and it is slipping.
The Idle bearing is easy and the least expensive to replace.
Your mechanic can change your compressor or he will know someone who can.
Do Your Homework, Look around for a new compressor...If you find it and replace it , then your mechanic just needs to vaccumn and fill your system

Put a new belt on it and spray the condenser coil in front of the radiator with a hose when it gets up to temp or the sound starts and see if it stops. Thats what I did today. Flapping/clacking stops for about 10 minutes until thing get hot again.A/C blowing cold air the entire time.

Get a rebuilt compressor or waste you money gambling on a clutch. It will have to come out anyway if you want to replace the bearing that is pressed in.
