Look in the glove box or center consol . hidden out of sight look around the back of box up towards top of opening. it may be a key switch that uses same key as your ignition as was the case on my Dodge insert key turn left/right ? then back to center remove key try to start car hope this helps good luck!

SOURCE: 1997 Dodge Caravan won't start - has a tick tick sound

Hi savvyuserbyo;

That tick, tick sound is probably the starter solenoid trying to activate the starter.

Here's a couple of things you can try. Take a hammer and tap the starter motor (not real hard, just medium) and then try to start it.

The 2nd thing you can do it to take a piece of wire, like lamp cord and(with someone helping) touch one end to the small terminal on the starter. (There is a large battery size wire connected to a large terminal on the starter, this is not the one you use) use the small terminal. Have your helper touch the other end to the positive terminal of the battery.

If the engine cranks. the solenoid is probably bad. If it doesnt crank the starter is bad.

The final thing to do is to remove the starter (after you disconnect the ground lead of the battery) and take it to an Auto Zone type store and have them check it out for you. BTW, starter and solenoid are sold as a unit. I just replace mine on my 94 F159 and is cost $100 exchange. If you need a replacement get a rebuilt rathert than a new. Just as good and cheaper.

Hope this helps Good Luck Loringh PS Please leave a rating if Appropriate. Thanks

SOURCE: 1997 Dodge Caravan "Back Up" Lights Do Not Come On

Hello
Welcome to FY
Check the reverse light switch located on the transmission. It is located by the shift lever housing on the transmission.
also there is a 10 amp fuse in your power distribution center for this too.

SOURCE: dodge caravan sliding doors

First, keep in mind that as you begin to remove these doors you run the risk of causing serious scratches to the paint and glass, so put some masking tape and/or plastic sheeting around both sides of the door (rear quarter panel and rear glass, front door and front door glass)
I would get a Haynes repair guide since that's what I have to work from and it will tell you step by step with pictures, what to do. It's not hard, but you need to get all of the attach points unhooked to be successful. Suggest you have a helper working with you to keep the door steady.

SOURCE: how to remove interior door panel on a 1997 caravan with ower windowq

Start by removing the negative battery cable from the battery. Then locate and remove the screws that hold the interior door handles in place (they may be hidden by snap in, or snap on covers). Once you have removed the interior door handles, disconnect the wire clips that go to your window and door lock controls.
I personally use a small pry bar to remove the interior door panel; it is held in by plastic snap clips. Try to get as close to, or directly under the snap clips as possible with your pry bar to prevent them from tearing out of the door panel. Once you have released the snap clips, pull the panel upward to remove it. Install in reverse.

I hope this information helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

1997 dodge caravan, full battery, turn key and it clicks, door chime buzzes, wont start. what should i look at?

If it clicks it could be a bad solenoid in the starter Also check for dirty or loose battery cables on both ends . they will do that as well.
You could try and tap the starter lightly with a hammer. while turning the key because it could be stuck but that's not likely. but has happened before.

Corrosion at the battery cables first. After that, remove the alarm system. Fix the wires as you go.

disconnect a/c compressor connector and reconnect make sure the connector is tight....my van was doing the same thing and after i did that it works great no more flashing lights

Comments: Jul 03, 2009 - almost forgot you need to do this after you disconnect and reconnect it...Now try holding down the bottom two outside buttons one on left of panel and the one on the right. This runs the cool down test. You might have to run these test more than once. If the a.c. is not working properly you will fail this test.

This worked for me!

Forgot to mention, keep the a/c on high recirc

Disconnect alarm

if it is aftermarket then all you have to do is disconnect the wire to the alarm that has power constantly going to it. if it is factory then you will need to make sure you tie the starter kill wire back into itself so you have a continuous circuit and not a broken one so that the car will still start. factory alarms are always a pain to locate where the starter kill wires are but usually the are near the steering column.
