SOURCE: 1999 mercury sable

the rust issue is related to the design of the cooling system, in a word ford screwed up, air gets trapped in the system and causes it to rust, the heater core is most likely plugged with rust, pull the hoses off at the firewall to the core and back flush the heater core, this should ge the rust out, then have the cooling system flushed with a power flusher, this will be a shop repair but there is no way around it, u may want to contact Ford/Mercury about a possible recall on the cooling system for this rust issue, as far as the A/C goes it is not related, does the compressor engage? let me know.

SOURCE: 2003 Mercury Sable headlight bulb replacement

This problem is now resolved, thanks to a prior post by sableowner.

http://www.fixya.com/cars/t1479995-2001_merc_sable_headlight_replacement

The 2003 Sable has the same headlight assembly and removal/replacement instructions as the 2001 Sable. Once I had this information in hand, bulb replacement was easy.

SOURCE: mercury sable 2001 duratec engine DOHC I get check engine light and diagnostic code PO401". Any suggestions?

Barring any vacuum leaks, P0401 is indicative of a bad EGR valve. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

SOURCE: power steering leak on passengers side of 1999 mercury sable.

If it "RED" in color, like p/s fluid, and coming from the BOOT, then its your p/s rack assembly. The unit has to be replaced and alignment reset. ..also check the HOSES they are prone to leak also...hope this helped..GL

Missing an air hose that goes from the air breather to ? what is it called?

if its about as big as your little finger in diameter it may be but if its an inch or larger its a manifold heat tube that comes up from the exhaust shroud on the header pipe which is used to preheat air on really cool days.. its usually around a foot long and flexible(bendable) and made from flexhose..parts store sells by the foot if needbe..its like an exhaust patch..they will know when you tell what car it is..(normally)

2000 ford mercury sable ls i own this car and coolant leaks from under or off the side of the antifreeze reservoir i can't see this leak but only does it while running leaks a lot of antifreeze ways...

if is a slow leak and you don't hear a load hissing is ok! replace any hose that you think needs replacement, on top of that check your radiator hoses for swelling ,if the car is leaking water each time you drive the car your risking the engine to blow a head gasket so I would fix the problem right away....

2001 Mercury Sable 3.0 v6 heating problem had a flush done and changed the thermostat put new coolant in, replaced heater core, replaced blend door what else can it be

First make sure you dont have an air lock in your heater core and make sure you feel heat from the two heater hoses if you do fell heat your problem is under dash. If the hoses are not hot you have a blockage some where you may have a heater valve not operating it works by vaccum if u have AC look in the engine compartment or it maybe under the dash by heater core, I belive its in engine bay by Ac and heater boxes

2001 24 valve Mercury Sable, leaking radiator hose assembly. Where can I buy parts and is this something that I, as a novice mechanic, can replace? Thanks...

Any auto parts sore can help, or even a mercury or ford dealer. Yes you can change it, as the upper hose is not bad, but the lower may be more difficult.
Put a catch pan under the hose area (Make sure it's cooled down) and remove the hose clamps at each end and twist off the hose, replace it, and replace the coolant, and you might have to add some more, and keep the overflow tank 1/2 full.

97 sable no heat leaking antifreeze

You need the cooling system topped off and the system pressure tested to find the leak and repair it then everything should be ok.

My a/c fan does not turn off, even when I have the heat on in my 2000 mercury sable. I wasn't getting any heat so I replaced the thermostat and I only get very little heat and saw that the a/c fan kept...

the fan is sopposed to cycle on and off its to keep the car cool your problem ti your heater core is plugged up and very restrictive. just pull the hoses off of it on the fire wall and hook up a garden hose to one side by cutting the end off and clamping the hose to the heater core, then turn the water on untill clean water with good flow comes out of the other hose bung, then switch sides and run the water the same way then hook everything back up and top off your coolant leval and check to c if all is well

Antitheft alarm on our 2001 mercury sable goes off on its own

Get a new car! JK - my 2002 Sable does the same thing. It can be 5 times a day then not for a month, or 2-3 times a day for a week straight. It happens in different locations and different weather and different times of the day. To my knowledge has never done it in my garage at home.
I have not called a dealer. Has anybody ever found the real problem? Could it be in the remote itself? I tried leaving it unlocked at work, but yesterday it went off just as I was reaching toward the door handle.
