Moisture has gotten into the transmission and the ice crystals have thickened the transmission fluid. Either get it inside to a warm place or run an electric heater beneath the transmission to heat the metal and eventually, the transmission fluid. Once you get it to work, drain the old oil and replace the filter and the oil. Change both more frequently to prevent moisture buildup.

SOURCE: transmission "sticks" when weather is cold

Assuming that the fluid is full, The symptoms you have indicate internal pressure loss within the unit. As time goes by, wear on the metal contact areas where seals ride, become worn. The seals themselves become somewhat brittle and especially in cold weather, sealing of fluid pressure becomes less than desired. Each time the transmission "flairs" on shifts some burning takes place on internal friction plates & clutches.Even with a fluid change, this condition cannot be corrected. Unfortunately, the unit must be rebuilt or replaced. In some mild cases an additive such as Lucas transmission sealer/conditioner can be used, but generally this is a "bandaid" not a permanent fix!

SOURCE: Car stuck in Park, wont switch gears

check to see if the brake lights come on it may be a problem with a brake switch under the dash not letting the shift lock release. there may be a seperate switch just for it so check and see it there is two switches touching the brake pedal lever if the brake lights come on.

I parked the 2005 STS for few months. It won't start now even with a jumping cable. What can I do to fix the battery that has drained ?

charge the battery with a charger. newer vehicles with security systems will drain batteries when the vehicle has not been used for extended periods of time especially in cold weather.

Car wont get out of park

Hopefully a 2008 is still under warranty. If it is take it back to the dealer on the hook.
If not get shop manual it will tell you how to release and replace the gear lock switch.

Car wont start but lights go on

More information would be nice. Does it crank with the starter or do you just a clicking noise or no noise at all? Automatic transmission, is it in park, did you try it in neutral too? Did you try jump starting it from another vehicle? It takes a lot more power from the battery the make the engine crank over, especially in cold weather, than it does to make the lights come on. Good Luck!

Hello monkzero0 I will explain what the problem happens during the hot season while it works very well during the cold season as it happens. 3 aucra we have 92 in the same family and all the same problem...

I have a sticky gear shifter in my automatic 1992 as well. Cut an extra set of keys and use the "shift lock bypass" on the gear selector in really cold weather. A redneck solution, but it's kept my car rolling trouble free for two winters of commuting 700km/week in the snow.

Sensor light comes on(2008 Dodge Charger)

if the weather has changed and got cold your tire pressure would have dropped and would be lower. 2 options. 1 is fill ther tire to 30 psi and ride it out (remembering that when it warms up the tire pressure will automatically go up too)
2. Is to run a dry air such as nitrogen which does not change pressure in hot/cold weather.
Hope this helps
