SOURCE: 2000 kia sephia starting problem

could be a grounding problem, first try a selinoid jump.

  • It could be the neutral safety switch. I would take it to Autozone, checker or other major parts retailer, they will check the battery, alternator, and starter motor. And they'll run a diaignostic check of your cars computer system. At no charge to you.

If your lights don't dim when you get your clicking noise that is probably the thing to investigate first. Getting a jump sends extra ummph to the solenoid to overpower a poor connection. Your solenoid could be failing. The click is your solenoid getting power , but not enough to jump forward and engage the starter which in turn turns your flywheel.

Remember it is either your fuel, compression, or electrical.

I'm betting your solenoid is going out, since it starts when you jump start it.

2000 kia sephia cranks but engine wont run

The fuel pump may have died. Can you hear it turn on briefly, by turning the key to "on"? You may have to stand by the gas tank while someone turns the key to on. It should turn on for about 2 seconds and then stop, after pressurizing the fuel system. If you don't hear it, then check the fuel pump fuse. If the fuse is good, and the pump won't run, one needs to check that the fuel pump wire at the tank connector has battery voltage on it when the engine is cranking-then, you can assume the pump needs replacing.
If the pump is working and you have gas up to the engine, you would next check the ignition system. Start that by checking for spark on one of the spark plug wires.

I have replaced the head gasket on my 2000 sephia. Had the head surfaced and valves seated and checked, after haveing all that done i get it put back togather and all the wireing checked, now it wont start...

No fire at the plugs means no power to the coil/coils or the coil/coils are bad. You say it won't start, I'll take that it does crank over and won't fire. You have to have power from the switch to the coil, coil to distributor, and cranking sends fire to plugs. With a test light, check that there IS power from the switch and ongoing. This is a must do.

Kia sephia 2000 car died in traffic while driving and now won't start. fuel pump is working and fuses are ok.

I assume you have checked the ignition system and that you are getting a spark at the plugs. If there is no spark, it could be either the Trigger Module inside the distributor or the coil itself.

2000 kia sephia problem

It could be a lot of things but I would be very suspicious of the starter and flywheel. The fact that it will start with a push suggests that your codes are not the problem with starting. Your starter's bendix drive could be weak which means it will disengage before the car starts. The solenoid could be getting worn and not putting enough juice to keep the starter running. The flywheel could have a "flat" spot.
To check the flywheel for a "flat" spot you will have to look at it and turn it by hand. The best way is to use a screwdriver or small pry bar and work it around that way. You are looking for missing teeth, teeth that are ground off or narrower than the rest. If you find that the flywheel needs to be replaced. I would try to start the car and when the starter kicks out, start looking right there.
The only way I know of testing the starter and solenoid is to replace them and see if that works. Hope this helps.

My 2000 kia sephia is not starting i bought a new battery, new fuel pump, new coils also wires and spark plugs, but still wont start. I also check the starter and took it to O' Railly Auto parts and...

sounds like either the teeth on the flywheel or on the starter itself are missing a few gears or the sylinoid is not ingaging the starter enough

After washing engine bay with water car wont start has no spark

The water leaks down into the spark plug holes. Remove the coil packs and spark plug wires, and sop up all the water in the spark plug hole. Leave the plugs in so water does not get into the engine. dry out the wires with an air gun, or just let dry. when everything is totally dry, put everything together and start.
