For it to come up empty there has to be a leak, find the leak replace the item then refil, the burning smell has to be the power steering fluid on the exhuast.

500 these days is nothing, look on the exhuast for a wet spot, fill the fluide up, watch under the hood and under the car, have someone start the car and turn the wheel, watch for the fluid, I would suspect a bad hose, pull the hose and bring it to your local parts store and they will give you a new one, simple, after you replace the hose refill the system and then bleed by turning the wheel all the left and then right a few time and top off the system

Battery light and abs light on hard to steer overheating

sounds like you either lost your fan belt, or you have a seized up alternator, or belt tensioner. The fan belt [ drive belt ] turns the alternator to charge the battery, the power steering pump to make easy steering , and the water pump cooling your engine. Do you smell rubber burning? hear a squealing noise? or rattling noise. Open your engine bonnet, start the car up, and look at the drive belt and pulleys. They should all be turning. If this is the problem you will see something seized up. Also if you have let the power steering pump run out of oil, it may also be seized. Good luck with it

My engine light just came on this morning but I am having a very hard time turning the steering wheel and it is making a strange sound when I try to turn the wheel.

Hi hope I can help.
First check the power steering pump fluid.
Also check your belt to the power steering. make sure it is not slipping.
After checking both of these and you still have a problem .
you will have to replace your power steering pump.
Hope this helps FixYa

I changed powersteering cooler on a 2000 f250. lost alot of the fluid. it seems like air got in the abs system. The abs light is on and when you push on the pedal, you can here the powersteering making...

Hello hummelsautob.
Changing the power steering cooler can't allow air into the brake system. Two different fluid systems.
Your F250 has it's brake assist powered by the power steering pump.
Instead of using a vacuum assist it uses the hydraulic power from the pump.
When refilling your pump you have gotten air mixed in with the fluid. This turns it into a consistency something like whipped cream.
When in this state it isn't effective. Let it sit for a couple hours and let the air bubble out of the fluid. Recheck your level after this as it will drop.
This will make your brakes feel normal again.
Just a note on adding fluid to an empty power steering pump.
Add fluid to the reservoir but not to the top, turn the steering wheel back and forth slowly with the engine off. This will keep the fluid from foaming.

My power steering pump makes a growling noise even when the car is idle. The noise is louder when I turn the steering wheel. The power steering fluid has gotten low a couple of times and gets foamy.

if gets low definitely a leak foam is pump mixing fluid with air roar is pump cavitation check lines or pump for leak keep fluid at recommended level air bound unit can cause steering difficulty and or failure if need have trained mech look into problem

2003 toyota prius hybrid while driving suddenly warning light come on with PS sign on then steering become hard.

Hi. When you have that particular light on, you need to get the power steering motor checked. This is not something that a non-Toyota service shop can check out. You need to take it to a Toyota dealer. They can check the steering motor system, and diagnose exactly what the issue is. Unfortunatly, there is no other way you can check it, as there is not "pump" on the stweering, it is actually a small motor that runs the steering.

Bad smell, clicking noise, hard to steer

If the clicking noise is Louder when you are trying to turn have your power steering pump checked it is leaking or has failed and will need replaced, Smell is the power steering fluid that has leaked out onto your engine. and This is why it is hard to steer, pump has failed

As Long as Your Serpentine Belt, (SINGLE MAIN DRIVE BELT) si in tact. I Believe you Would Know Otherwise as You would Not have Charge for Battery, And No Cooling system, Among other functions, Lights In Information Cluster Would Indicate All These Failures. First Culprit is Power Steering PUMP<<((( Check Fluid Level First If it is Low Or Empty "You Have A LEAK " Refill and Quickly Look Under Engine Compartment for Leakage, Have A Helper Turn Steering wheel if Power Assist Returns "You Have A Leak"If WHILE TURNING steering Wheel You See A Significant Amount of Fluid Pouring out This Would Indicate A "High Pressure Hose" LEAK))) IF you Have NO LEAKAGE the Problem Most Likely Resides in The Power STEERING PUMP OR The RACK This Can Be Determine By A Shop Equipped With Pressure Testing Gages.Hope this Leads you In the Right Direction, NOTE : A Hose Can Posibly Be A Do it your Selfer Beyond that Use your Own Judgment as I Dont Know Your Skill Level, Again I wish you Luck and Hope tou can Take care of this Without Getting ROBED by A Shop, If you Find This Info to Be Valuable to you Plaese RATE Me Accordingly Thank You And Have A Great Evening, RejakWilson
