Question about 2003 Jaguar X-Type
I had the same problem in my 2002 not isn't back I got a tin of wd 40 put the straw applecateter in the key hole and give it a good dose after 10 minute it open did it again now it works fine so I did them soon to make shore try it before you have to pull the door panel apart

need to remove the interior door panels and check all the linkages. One of them is a brittle plastic linkage that is famous for breaking, and bits get caught up in the travel path of the door handle. I had taht issue, and rebult all mine with aftermarket plastic linkages, and the metal parts I pulled from junkyard cars. No way to fix it without removing the interior door panels, but that is thankfully a pretty easy job.

replace bar linking inside with outside handle undo handle remove square bar inspect both parts replace which ever is worn or broke

Testimonial: "very helpful, having problem with one screw removing the interior panel....is a screw at elbow position on arm rest...got the other arm rest screw out....I can see the screw when I pull back on the panel.....even removed lower door panel light(red lense)....how do I get to that screw? thanks"

the inside of the handle break off remove it you will see it

take a screwdriver and place it into the locking mech where the door meets the closing latch
The screw driver should be placed in door like this

Push ^^^ then pull out toward the interior of the car while toggling the handle
