Good guess if it's not vacuum, it may be the intake manifold gasket allowing too much air into system. Easy teats to check is to spray some engine cleaner, or brake cleaner [ WD40 works too ] directly where the intake manifold bolts on. Making sure you are spraying the gasket. If gasket is bad, you will hear the idle go down or up. Any change at all tells the tale. . Be sure not to spray the exhaust manifold, just the intake manifold. This is the best test to perform Saves time and money. Let me know how you make out. PS Also spray vacuum hoses with the cleaner. Listen to motor at the same time
let me know how you do

It could be you TPS throttle positioning sensor, bad AIC air ide control. or even a bad EGR valve. All of these things should be connected to , or very near the throttle body. You will have to take the sensors off to inspect them. The AIC will haver a mushroom shaped plunger. This may be dirty allowing too much air to get into the mixture. You will have to take the throttle body off most likely to get these sensors off, so while you have the TB off, its a good thing to scrape off the carbon , and wash it all down with varsol. Common thing. The TPS, there is no way to check it, but if you take it off and clean it up. It's a last resort type of thing. . Also while you are cleaning the throttle body, make sure you clean inside where the plunger seats good luck

You did spray the intake manifold while it was running I hope. I read back and forgot to say that. It has to be running at the time of spraying

I'm having the EXACT same problem with a 94 regal gran sport. When I shift into gear idle foes down, but when I put it back in park, engine races back up to 3000 rpm. Were you able to resolve this problem? If so, what did it end up being?

SOURCE: speedometer not working, high revs & won't shift out of low gear

Your issue is a bad "speed sensor". Your speedometer is controlled by a sensor in your transmission, and when it quits working your speedometer will not work, it can cause very irregular shift patterns and slipping. Replacing your speed sensor should resolve your issues.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

3.8L BUICK REGAL IDLE WONT KICK DOWN IN PARK OR IN GEAR CHECKED VACCUM LINES & INTAKE GASKET 4 LEAKS ALL LOOKS GOOD ANY SUGGESSTIONS

If you know for a fact you have no vac leaks, the next step would be to check the idle air control valve. It should be mounted in the throttle body. It could be stuck open.
The computer controls idle speed by regulating air flow into the throttle body.
The throttle plate could also be stuck open. An eighth of an inch would do it. Make sure the throttle and cruise control cables are not pulling on the throttle plate.
Vac leaks could include the PCV valve and the EGR valve.

My 3.8 when in drive and push gas engine revs but there is very little movement, reverse is working normally

Check the trans fluid level and make sure it is full.Has to be checked with engine running in park and warmed up.Low fluid level will cause slipping. If the level is good then you could have internal problems.Hope this helps.Good luck.

You have a problem in the fuel pump relay circuit for sure then. I'm betting the relay, but it could be that dropping resistor.
