Question about Subaru Forester

When car air con cuts out it sometimes make loud noise like decompressing gas

1) I run engine in neutral and revs the engine...no problems noted 2) I than turns on the air con and revs the engine. Sometimes i note that the needle moves up wards even though my leg on the peddle remains in same position. This appears to be air con unit cutting in. 3) I rev engine number of times and sometimes when air con cuts out there is a loud sound like sound air de-compressing. 4) This loud sound occurs frequently 5) On normal travelling, the problem is also present but not consistently making loud sound but every now and then

I have a 2008.5 Mazda 3 GS Sport and when you turn the air flow selector to windows or windows/floor, the air condition will turn on automatically. (Can't turn it off.)

SOURCE: Revs ''hunt'' on tickover, sometimes revs drop so low car cuts out

Thanks to some advice I have fixed the problem with my Granada. The pipe work from the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold has a short piece of plastic pipe which needed replacing. This seems to have done the trick.

I would like to thank you for running this site. Without it I would still be re-starting my car each time I stop at a red light!

SOURCE: Rev counter jumps whilst idling and then engine cuts out

Your problem sounds as if the thermo sensor....which controls the air fuel ratio when engine is cold....is faulty. It is a common fault on this model.
This is not an expensive part, and takes only a short time to fit.
Good luck

SOURCE: BMW 535 auto gearbox issue?

hello jimandsuecla, you could potentially have a trans torque converter that is staying engaged. If the converter does not release, it would be similar to slowing down a manual transmission in first gear and not pushing in the clutch. You could also potentially have an idle valve that is sticking/binding and not responding enough to change in rpm and load. Does the car stall when the a/c is on and when the a/c is off? Have you had any shifting concerns. What is the current idle rpm reading while in gear with the a/c on or off?Any additional info will be helpful. Thanks

With the engine running open the hood and look/listen for a vacuum leak. One of the larger vacuum hoses has likely come off.

Your noise sounds like it is power train related,If you have eliminated the engine,Since it doesn't make the noise while moving and in neutral.
It sounds like a universal joint in the drive shaft.Do you notice a vibration

So when you turn off the air con the noise stops ..
If yes then its the bearings in the Air Con pump which is driven by the same belt and when turning the r13 coolant around the bearings being dry and worn out will start to make the noise Same as the water pump does when it goes, but yours is Air Con Pump.

Renault Scenic blew up after long drive

yes see this all the time, turbo has failed the compressor side.
oil has been feed straight into your engine and lit, this acts as fuel and the faster the engine the more oil, no rev limiter either.
some times it can bend a conrod.
see if the car starts now. if so and runs happy (please note it will not rev up until warm) dont run for no more than 30 seconds.
what you are looking for is a lumpy engine and lots of white smoke. if so you have bent a con rod.
if not remove all turbo pipes and clean out oil, replace turbo.

Engine dies when you step on the gas

I believe we are talking about two completely separate problems here:
1) The need to shift to neutral in order to start the car.
2) The car stalling when you rev it.

1) All modern automatic transmision cars have a safety switch that impedes the operation of the starter motor when the car is in any gear other than park or neutral. I believe it is called the neutral safety switch. Sometimes this switch can get out of alignment and cause this problem. As this witch is known to be in different places for different cars, I would recommend that you either see a mechanic to realign the switch, or learn to live with putting the car in Neutral before you crank it.

2) Let's think about this as a normal problem first:
It takes three things to have combustion:
1) Oxygen (in the form of air in this case)
2) Fuel (in the form of gas in this case)
3) An ignition point (in the form of a spark plug in this case)

The trick is getting these three variables in the right ratios, at the rigth times. Any of them is off (too much fuel, not enough air, spark too early or too late) and you have a failed combustion.

A car's internal combustion engine is no different. Reading your request, I think we can pressume that the engine actually starts and runs idle.

If this is the case, then check the following:
1) Change the air filter.
2) Drop in some injector cleaner into your tank.
3) If the above two fail, take the car to a mechanic and have them check the injector pressure. The problem may be related to the fuel pump not putting up enough pressure to rev the car, while only putting up enough pressure to idle the car.

Hope that helps!
