I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that sees pretty regular use. One morning I went out to run an errand, and the vehicle would not turn over. Panel lights came on, but nothing in the starter. Checked battery, trickled it up to full, and tried again. No sound, no bump to starter. It must be electrical, but I'm mystified. Is there something I should check? The manual is no help. and I live out in the country. I welcome suggestions. Thanks.

I just had the same prblem. Reconnect your alarm first of all. You need to use your key bob "remote" to deactivate the alarm before starting. It is a feature "good one" i might add that should someone try to steal it the jeep will not start until u deactivate it w theke bob.
i have a 1997 jeep grand cherekee laredo and am having a problem with the alarm its a factory alarm it whent off and i cant get it to reset i tryed everything i could locking and unlocking the doors i put all new fuses and relays in i even unpluged top dash alarm sensor and body control module and it just dont want to reset and it dont want to run at all how can i take care of the problem
You have gotten two problems. First your Vehicle Theft Security System (ignition inhibit feature) has been activated. To disarm it just enter the key and rotate either door or liftgate. If this does not work, locate under in the hinge of the driver door module a violet wire with a brown tracer, put a jumper between that line and ground. That single action should allow you to start the engine. Now, the second problem is dash lights. With the ignition off, you turn the headlamp switch to the right and the dash panel should light. If it doesn't you need to start looking a the basics, that is, fuses/breakers, voltage, ground, the switch itself.
The VTSS (Vehicle Theft Security System) might be armed. To dissarm insert and rotate the key on the driver door lock or the passenger door lock or the liftgate door lock. You can also disarm it by pushing the button on the keyless control unit.
