Question about 1999 Honda Passport

How can remove the starter of my honda passport 99, i relase the starter but cant take out of the engine, dosnt have space betwin the engine and the chasis. Tanks and Regards Mike A.

You have to drop the exhaust pipe and remove the wheel. I got his info from Wiki Answers hope it helps you.Read below.
. Disconnect the battery first. After that you may want to remove the driver's side front wheel. This gave us access to the starter for removal of the battery cable and the spade terminal which are on top of the starter while it is mounted. We then removed the two bolts that hold the starter in place. All of that took about 10 minutes to complete. On my passport the battery cable came off with a 12mm, the spade terminal is plug and play and all you have to do is push down on the tab on top and pull the terminal apart. The bolts for the starter are 14mm on my car. You need extensions to get at them though. After that is when all of the work began. We then tried every way possible to get it out of the compartment without taking anything else apart. No luck. So we removed the heat shields around the exhaust manifold and exhaust. Still not enough room. So finally we took the 3 bolts out of the flange that connects the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe. We had to use reverse torque bolt sockets for this. The one we used was the NAPA E-14. There are nuts on the bolts but removing only those won't do the trick. They are 17mm in case you are wondering. We then had to remove the bracket just aft (rearward) of the catalytic converter to get enough play in the exhaust pipe. Once you do this, the starter slides right out of the space moving down and aft. The new starter goes right in no problems once you are to this point. The only casualty to the whole process was one of the bolts from that flange on the exhaust manifold lost it's threads in the process. We were lucky that none of mine sheared off which is apparently a large concern and somewhat of a probability. Good luck

    Had similar issues with mine (2001) passport. The flange at the exhaust just behind the starter with the three bolts was very rusted. Two of the three bolts sheared off when I tried breaking them loose. The 17mm nuts are really all that hold the flange together. The problem is getting the pipe low enough to clear the reverse torx bolts. I used a ratchet strap placed around the coupling just to the rear of the catalytic and tightened it backwards against the frame to get a few inches of clearance.

Brake problem


The vacuum release is at fault. It is mounted near the emergency brake pedal. It has a silver round type metal vacuum pod attached to it with a vacuum line going to it.

Replace the starter


what you will need to do to replace your starter is 1stdisconnect the negative batter terminal and remove your air intake so that you will have access to the starter because it is located on the back top of the transmission. after you can get to it you are going to need a8 or10, 14 mm socket & wrench set. Now you can remove the 2 14mm bolts that mount the starter and cylinoid to the transmission and then unplug the signal wire from the wiring harness and use the8 or 10 mm socket to remove the cable that is coming from the positive battery terminal. now that you have the starter removed now you can connect the wires to the new starter and bolt it in place.

Removing starter for 1995 Honda Passport, can I do it myself and what do I need


Very simple job to do for the DIY mechanic, best way to get at the starter is from underneath the car, disconnect the live battery terminal, very important! remove the wiring harness from the starter and undo the three locating bolts that secure the starter to the gearbox, give it a wiggle and it should come free!
Make sure that the live feed off the battery i disconnected! there are some times an engine to bulk head earth starp located on one of the bolts, ensure that this goes back on!
Tool required, 10mm spanner, 13mm sockets etc.

How is the alternator removed on a 99 honda passport?


its mounted under leftside of the engine if your looking from the front has 2 bolts on the top and one on the bottom with and adjuster bolt going thru it ? with a harness pluggin into the rear and a big wire with a nut on the back ? be sure to disconnect the battery before you start removing it ? you may want to buy a $20 manual with pictures at the parts store ? hope this helps

99 passport 4x4 tranny question


There is not a dipstick for the automatic transmission on the 1999 Honda Passport. There are two plugs on the bottom of the transmission - the lowest one is the drain plug and the one located higher is the overfill plug. You should have a fluid temperature gauge as it is recommended that the temperature be between 90* F and 135* F when checking fluid level. (I believe you can order from dealer - I have also heard that running the engine for 10-15 min will put you near the proper temperature - to be certain, the temperature gauge is the right way to do it.) Run engine for a few minutes to reach optimum temperature. The vehicle must be on level ground and at idle to properly check fluid level. With proper temperature reached - and engine running at idle - set parking brake - remove the fill plug and add fluid with a syringe or small pump until it just starts to run out of the opening. Do not open the overfill screw with the engine stopped. Replace the fill plug and shift through gears - then remove and repeat one time to achieve proper level.

How do you take the starter off a 1996 honda passport


Yea I know. I hate doing starters in the car. Pretty much its just manuvering it around to get it to slide out. Once you get it disconnected.

It will have three bolts bolting it into the transmission. And then of course the two power bolts.

Starter noise


could be.
that is the bendix drive of the starter. it is not disengaging.
it will burn the starter if you continue to use it with that noise.

to repair, remove starter and replace bendix drive.

your sending unit in the gas tank is bad. You most likely already priced a new one that you can only get with a fuel pump. {around 275-300 dolllars}. I found the sending unit by itself on ebay for around 40 dollars. Just go to ebay and type in 98 99 00 01 02 rodeo passport fuel sending unit and that should take you to the guy I'm getting mine from.
