The vents do not blow hot air, the ticking sound keeps time, is standard and comes from behind the stereo, (which works fine).

When i turn the heat on it makes a clicking sound, and it blows out cold air, but when i turn cold temp on the clicking sound stops, until heat temp is turned back on. please tell me how to fix this...

Your ac blend door is broken or the actuator that opens and closes the door is broken. The ac blend door moves up and down to direct air flow through the heater core(for heating) or evaporator core(for cooling).

When the door mechanism breaks, the blend door falls down and you will only have ac but no heating.

You can buy a ac blend door kit for your explorer, they cost about $120 on ebay or other places.
search for Explorer ac blend door kit.

The duct is under the the dash on the drivers side. And you will have to cut open the duct to install the replacement door.

Heres a link to a tutorial of how to do the job.

Heater blowing cold air and fan is making clicking noise when turned on.

check that you have coolant, that is a dangerous symptom, if you have low or no coolant, your heater core will not be able to heat up and transfer heat into vehicle. Clicking is probably just dusty blower motor out of alignment. you will have to remove cover and clean and check alignment

Heating...burrrrrrrrr

The clicking is the air temperature blend door motor, most likely the motor will have to be replaced the blend door checked to make sure it moves freely, this repair requires the removal of the dash assembly.

Heat when the fan blow at 2 but cold if the fan is at 3 speed

1st make sure the heated core is getting hot, do this by feeling the hoses under the hood that supply hot coolant to the core, if the inlet and outlet are hot then the core has circulation and is not the problem, check this and let me know what you find.
