Is the fuel pump really bad?

Our son's erstwhile Ford something had a shock sensitive switch that when tripped by a big pothole, shut the (electric) fuel pump off and had to be reset before it would function again.

Personally I wouldnt bother tracing the wire as it is probably not worth your time, and just run a constant 12v from the battery to the relay on like 10ga wire. There is probably a short somewhere in the system which can be a real headache to find.

Also it may sound dumb, but check your fuses, and the fusible links under the hood. Chances are that they are all fine though, especially if you have dash lights.

SOURCE: where is the fuel pump shutoff switch located on a 1996 chevy silverado 1500 located

Should be on the passenger side kickplate below the glovebox and to the right. You may have to remove the plastic panel to access it or look for a small hole in it and feel around for the button

If you hear the pump kick on when you cycle the key, what makes you think you have a fuel problem? Have you used a fuel pressure gauge to see if you have correct fuel pressure?

1996 Dodge ram 1500 5.9L won't accelerate properly

Have a fuel pressure test done on the manifold as you may have a faulty fuel return regulator valve which is not allowing the pump to build up the required pressure but instead is allowing the fuel to flow back to the tank

sounding like a failed auto shutdown relay... as you probably know, it shouldn't take a full minute to get pressure, should be instantaneous..

Check the fuel pump fuse and relay under the hood in the fuse panel. If both fuse and relay are good then fuel pump may be at fault, but it seems too new for a fuel pump replacement. Hope this helps. Keep me posted please. Good luck

1996 dodge 1500 5.2 no fuel pump w/key on,relay good,

I would check voltage at the fuel pump relay, and check for resistance in the wirring from relay to pump. It is common for a fuel pump develope a dead spot as you describe it. Is what actually happens most of the time is that the pump gets week enough so that it will not start with fuel pressure load and run fine without load. Can not say for shure weather your fuel pump is bad or not as I do not Know What led you to the conclusion that it was not working. If you are confident that lack of fuel pressure was your trouble I would bet the fuel pump is the problem.

Have you check the injector relay or maybe a fuse for injectors.
