Cold start valve or TPS sensor, Reboot system on car, Do this, turn key on,no engine just, make the lights and instrument on and the radio, all on, than go and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for two or four minutes, and connect it back, when You do it some sparks will come from the terminal,DO NOT PANIC! is normal *** the terminal well enough, clean it before with sand paper, if You want to put grease in, do it after terminal is secure in to Battery conections, Go turn Your car key OFF , than start the car again, DO IT WITH COLD CAR, so you know after starting if problem is solved

I have a tapping noise from my engine bay on an audi v6 tdi, i think it may be a tappet and have been told it may likely be fixed with an engine flush and service car has only covered 114000mls,the noise...

The cam followers are self adjusting,so an engine flushing agent and new oil (10/40 semi synthetic), should sort out the "tapping" noise,When the engine is hot run at 3500 revs for 30 secs to reset gaps

Engine knocking at the first start in the morning

Personally, if it's only a second or 2 when cold, I wouldn't worry about it, other than be sure not to rev it when first started. I've heard many engine do the same, and last a long time. If manual says 10w30, then that's what I'd run in it. What you have to think about, is when you go from 10w, to 20w oil, it's thicker and will take a little longer to get to those critical areas when cold. It may protect a little better when warm or hot, but start-up cold, is more important, as you want the oil to be able to flow fast when cold. If manual recommends 10w30, go with that. I usually will use 10w30, in winter, then 10w40 in summer. Gives you added protection on hotter days, but does not take away from cold start protection.

Car cutting out from cold start

You need a 10 mil and 8 mil spanner, carb cleaner and mabie some wd40.
Remove the big hose which goes from the throttle body to the air filter housing. Under the throttle body there is a idle control valve, unplug it, spray some wd40 on the 8mil bolts and take them off. Clean the idle control valve and housing and anywhere else which looks dirty, dry it with a lint free cloth and then put everything back on.
remove the battery negative terminal and leave it off for 30 minutes, this will reset the ecu to factory settings.

On the top of the throttle body there is a black circular rubber screw cover, take that off and there should be a plastic screw.

Connect your battery and start your engine, unscrew the idle speed control (plastic screw) so it revs at 2000rpm cold. When the temp needle reached the middle so it revs at 1000rpm hot.

This should solve the problem, if you drive around and find that you in 4th gear, with your foot off the accelerator and the idle is going up and down madly then the idle control valve is worn out and it needs replacing. Cost around £125 on ebay.
