Mild heat from floor when temperature is set at 90 degrees

My 1991 Sedan Deville for years has only given mild heat when the temperature is set at 90.Sounds like the heater core.Is this a big/expensive job best done at the dealer or an ASE gas station repair shop? What should I expect to pay for repair?

Hi Paul,
I doubt it is the heater core although it could be, I bet if you replace the thermostat it will allow the coolant to get at little hotter and the heater will be warmer.
Let me know if this helps and please rate this solution. Lone99star

My heater doesn't work. The blower comes on but no heat. Regardless of the setting (60-90 degrees) only cold air. Defrost works to clear windows but no heat.

Most likely your heater core has been clogged up with years of contaminants. The fix here is to pull the heater core, have it flushed or replaced, and put it back.

The temperature display says 127 degrees outside and the heat only works when set at 90

replace the temp sensor bracket mounted in front of the radiator. I pulled one from a junkyard that is common to many years and models of Cadillac from the late 80's thru 90's. It solved the problem. The resistor element goes bad inside this sensor.

Need to know coolant temp operating range for 1988 Seville

Entirely possible and in range. Depends on outside temps and type of driving. The radiator is colled by electric cooling fans, controlled by temp sensors. Fans should come on automatically when a/c is turned on

Reverse flush the cooling system and put in fresh antifreeze to -20. (20 below zero). If that doesn't help, replace the thermostat.
