You should be able to replace the solinoid with out pulling the trans but you will need to drop the subframe to gain axcess to the side of the trans

SOURCE: How to change a water pump on a 1999 Buick Century 3100?

the water pump on the 3.1 isnt to hard to change ...

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the drive belt guard.
  4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the drive belt. This should help keep the pulley from turning as the bolts are loosened.
  5. Remove the drive belt. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the pulley.
  6. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the engine front cover.

SOURCE: Change Engine Air Filter in 1999 Buick Century

Well you didn't say what engine is in it so,I'll wing it. Assuming it's a v6, the airbox is located in the front, probably driver side. Remove the 4 or 5 wing nuts or Phillips head screws. Gently but firmly lift the top housing & slide the old filter out. Put the new one in,making sure it's in the same way as the old one came out. It can't go in upside down anyway but I'm being specific. Re-install the housing & done!!

did you change the parts as a result of warning lights on the dash or was it running badly ?
Are there any indicators of the problem, i.e. lumpy running, inctrasing/decreasing revs, bad starting when cold or when hot etc

1989 buick century 3.3 when you come to a stop ,car shakes and engine dies,I think it's a control mod. in tran. Where is that located?

They only had problems with the 125 transmission. The torque convertor sol. would stick and to get it started you would have to put itt in neutral and when you shift to drive it would cut off again. I believe you have a 440 transmission.

Can I change the shift solenoid 1-2 (code P0753) 1997 Buick Century. Where is it located?

The shift solinoids are mounted to the valve body which is behind the side cover of the transmission. Usually you have to lower the trans to remove the side cover, which envolves lowering the subframe. If you drop the subframe the steering rack must be disconnected and the engine must be held from above because most of the motor/trans mounts are on the subframe

Don't listen to him you have a cloged govener switch. I work for jeep have a profesionall mechanic replaced the solinoid pack and the valve body and flush the trans flush and put in a new filter good luck it will be a lot cheeper than overhauling the trans.
