Why engine runs when ignition is off

gas or diesel.?
what engine, option. they have names and all are different.
is it CARB engine, or EFI? (below is EFI answer) ONLY.
3 possibles. (gas, otto cycle enigine)
1: key switch bad.
2: relays bad. (stuck on)
3: wiring hacking by goons. (too common)

try posting the engine on car, we can not help ,not knowing that 1 fact.
and year.

below is the vast numbers of engines used, on all B gen cars.

as you can see, we are totally helpless to help. with this fact.
post VIN number
if no vin, post chassis tag dead, under ENGINE statement.

My 06 honda element dies in am replaced iacv

tune it up yet? which engine?
stalls hot or cold engine or both?
can you save the stall. by fast right foot action????
  1. easy?
  2. kinda hard?
  3. impossible?????
no need guess; we can diagnose it.

there are lots of causes (50) for but just 4 in physics.
1: bad 12vdc power to EFI. system.
2: lost engine compression, 1 or more cylinders.
3: lost spark to 1 or more cyl.
4: bad fueling, too much or too little.
and other odd causes, EGR stuck open tops that list.

1 part down 49 to go on a guess? really?

1994 jeep cherokee dies and is very hard to start back

can you save the stall with a fast right foot>?
my wild guess (no engine option stated, so...2.5L 4.0L or?????.)
EGR sticking open, (if it has one)
flooding, (spark tips soaked in raw fuel?)
starving. (is it?) for fuel? same test as above, but bone dry. cranked.
bad spark test spark, is it good on all cyl.? ever do a tune up this decade?
does cranking (opr.guide secret trick) with wide open throttle start the engine?)
opr guide trick to , does 10% applied throttle help starts
yes, then the ISC may be stuck closed.

stalls are cause by 4 things, (but 50 reasons)
1: lost 12vdc to EFI system. (see dash go dead or lights dim?)
2: lost compression, hot. Id bet not... on this car.
3: lost spark, easy tests. same way for 100 years. a test spark plug.
4: bad fueling, this puts you in the 50 reasons way.
but we dont go there, we do the tests, if you get to step 4.
ask for tests. (have many, all in fact.
#4 test, read the spark tips....... they talk to you.

do the for gotton 60,000 mile tune up now....
spark parts and filter....

Engine racing

time to join the toyota death club.?.. LOL !!!!
eg; floor mats hitting throttle???? nah, nobody is that daft.
which engine options?
1.3 L M13A I4 (petrol)?
1.5 L M15A I4 (petrol)?
1.3 L I4 (diesel)?

but is ok, parked, with trans in neutral??????????
the normal RPM is about 800 hot.
not the word hot, it must be. it must be hot, 180F min. holding
hot. does it? we use a $9 scan tool to scan the ecu
and look at the ECT, does it show, 180F?
like this shows. driving dead cold the engine, warms, see it?
http://www.fixkick.com/my96-16v/TP-MAF-VSS-ECT-FUEL.JPG
the blue line, that is ECT, engine coolant temp sensor.......?
ok we got past rule one, and all fuse are good, we check.

The ECU (EFI BRAIN) in your car controls idle at all times.
GAS ENGINES, diesel we dont have here, in 2005 USA.
in your case, (hot) it does not, so can be only 2 things.
1: the ISC is messed up. (stuck open, so clean it.)
or
2: the EFI fueling is bad, causing #1.
the EFI controls might go rich or lean, and there can be air leaks in to the air intake system, (induction) on MAP engines, it races fast.
on MAF engines, it goes lean and idles slower.
i have no idea what system you have as my on line source skips 2005

what country?
is the CEL glowing key on?> check engine lamp
then stays out running>>>>>?????
do you have a maf sensor on the main air pipe? some are hidden in the throttle body. on some suz.
i believe this car is MAF based, (with map used for EGR tests only)
on very new cars, the MAF can fail, and the ECU is so smart
it can start using the MAP as backup,
or on some newer cars, it uses both , map works best at idle.
most mAF do a poor job at air flow reading at idle, (touch)
that is whats out there......
what does all this mean, simple
you start the engine, the CEL stays glowing, scan it.
you scan it and find the MAF is dead./ engine is in limphome
and in limphome mode idle controls can be DEAD>
ok CEL is out
engine hot, EFI is in CLOSED loop at idle and LTFT is like -4%
long term fuel trim. looks good, so if idle is wrong
the ISC is BUNGED

see what i did there , i used a $9 scan tool to tell me
the EFI fueling is good. so the ISC is bad.
the ISC can be 1 to 3 parts. (iac/iSC parts)
if any stick , it races. or stalls , depends on where is stuck
its just and air valve.
on MAF systems the ISC uses metered air and fuel is mixed perfect
so if it sticks open fueling is perfect and idle is RACING.
that is how EFI works. (fuel, idle, not spark)

i found what you had on the swift forum..... no lack of info there.

random page
http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=49725

most the questions answered this page are wrong cept last.
the maf on your car has extra capacity, so a bigger one does NOTHING. and the closed loop , will cancel the kids fiddling .
they dont understand EFI.
read

Greg Banish books to see how

all the bits work together. including how hard it is to get idle controls to
work right, its the last thing that does,,,,, work right.
ifcar has MAP total system (speed density ) most of my comments above are bunk,,,,
on SD systems, all air leaks, cause RACING ! apples and oranges different. they are...
to work efi , you need to first know what is there.....

Ymy battery light came on and everything on dash

shaking?
that means the engine stalled.
when the engine stalls. (do a tune up)
as the engine misfires, grossly , the 4 cyl . engine will shake.
and then it stalls
and many cluster lamps glow, CEL lamp. and charge glow.
you failed to look at engine RPM its wrong.
the normal hot RPM is about 800RPm for most cars.
and the engine EFI brain regulates there.
if the ECU brain can not regulate RPM at 800 that means you have gross misfiring, (lots of causes)
#1 cause, not doing tune ups, (aka, the 60k service points)

Once engine gets warm car refuses to start

with all engines, (otto cycle)
any engine Gasoline
1: compression drops hot. (valve lash is tops here)
2: lost spark. (did you check all 4 cyl for lost spark?) now is the time. (ill assume you can google,or youtube that , endless examples... and more every day.)
3: bad fueling. (complex but)
the tests is same 1920 to now, it's called LOOK at the spark tips.
are they dry, or wet.?
if dry do a test fuel run. (buy test fuel and use it)
if wet , (1st tune up in 19years.??????)
if wet diagnose flooding. (ask) complex answer.

the other possible is lost 12v power to the EFI system.
even an intermittent fuse. check power on all EFI fuses. at failure point, in fact all tests above are , yes, at the failure point.
not a perfect running car.

No spark from ignition module on hot start

95 JEEP WRANGLER 4 CYL

No spark. I have changed out the distributor cap, rotor, wiring from coil to cap, and coil was replaced. I checked the distibutor by turning ignition key and observing the rotor turn. What else can I check. I did not observe a module.
