Water pump is nocking, is it the pump or tension pully

Nocking sounds like it was going to trow a rod took to a shop and they say its water pump...gave me a $625.00 bill....im broke so i want to do it myself, just wondering if shop is trying to screw me

When you get done doing the water pump,
you most likely would charge someone more
than $625.00 to do another one

After changed a new water pump,timing belt,idler pully,tensioner for 2004 lexus ls 430, when start engine has a noise look like from pully


COULD BE A BAD BEARING IN THE IDLER PULLY OR THE TENSIONER ON THE TIMING BELT OR THE SERPENTINE BELT. IF ITS A SQUEEL IT MAY BE SOME COOLANT GOT ON THE SERPENTINE BELT. TRY TO WASH THE BELT WITH WATER AND LET DRY COMPLETELY. IF NOISE REMAINS RETURN TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK.

94 oldsmobile 88 crank shaft location


Its the harmonic balancer. The rubber in the balancer has disintegrated and not balancing the motor any longer. You have to install a new one.

I have a 1988 pontiac fire bird and i took it a part to rebuild it and have it all back together and lost the belt route a possibly a pulley but can't figure out what one is missin if there is one missing...


It sounds like you are missing the idler pully. I need to know what size motor you have to get you the diagram. If this car is a v belt style you manually set tension. If this is serpentine belt style sound like your missing the tensioner too.

My car just all of a sudden over heated and I stopped and found out smoke coming from underneath the hood. I took it to the shop and they said it might be the just timing belt or the timing belt and...


timing belts dont make a car over heat. no water, water pumps and thermostats do. if the water pump is in with the timing belt, then I could see they're solution. If it is I recomend that you replace everything to do with the timing. belt, pullies ,tensioner ,water pump. this is labor intensive and you dont want to go back in in a couple of months and replace a pulley that was left and went bad the cost on this job is $500.00 to $700.00 depending on the cost of the parts

I have a high pitched noise which appears to be coming from front right engine compartment (as you are looking at the engine) which sounds kind of like a belt that is squealing. It is intermittent. Just...


Could be several things. WHICH ENGINE?.. 4 cylinder (has three belts, power steering/water pump, alternator & A/C compressor, one tensioner pully A/C compressor), The V6 2.7 (has only one belt, 1 Idler pully and 1 tensioner pully), the V6 3.5 has two belts - A/C/alternator, and power steering - there are two tensioner pullys). Noises can be caused by the belt(s) themselves, pullys, bearings, pully bearings, water pump shaft bearings (or belts/pullys rubbing up against something). Let's not forget that there is also belt(s) behind the Timing Belt cover as well as pullys and bearings associated with the timing system. You could start by removing one accy drive belt at a time (alternator, water pump, compressor, power steering, etc) to see whether or not the noise goes away in each case. If after each case, you discover the noise is still there, it's probably behind the timing belt cover (idler/tensioner pully, water pump shaft bearing, crankshaft bearing, etc.). Good Luck

Noise where belt and pullys are and runs hot when air is running


By putting the air on you increase the drag on the water pump and it starts to falter. Replace the water pump and re tension all the belts.

Cant put on belt right


from front of engine looking back,belt around bottom of crank pully,water pump is just above,left side of belt comes around water pump going counter clock wise,put belt over alternator,then straight across to a/c compressor,(make sure belt goes under any idler pullies,smooth side of belt to smooth side of pully)find your belt tensioner,pry back on tensioner(be carefull)and carefully place belt under roller pully of the tensioner,release and check allignment of belt prior to starting.oh ya make sure belt is in good condition.
