The transmission filter is inside the transmission housing under the bottom of it! You will need to, first, drain the transmission and then remove all of the screws on the transmission bottom pan to access it. I suggest you get a service manual at the auto parts store for your vehicle. The best one is the Haynes auto manual...it will give you the full explanation and a whole lot more!

SOURCE: How often do you change the motor oil? The motor

Oil change recommended is every 3,000miles / 5000km for local short running around. If you clock up the miles quickly then extend the oil changes to 6,000miles /10,000km
Oil filter is every second oil change.
Use reputable multi grade oil 15W/40 or similar, Do not use standard SAE 30 single grade oil. You do not need to use synthetic / semi-synthetic oils either.

SOURCE: WHERE IS THE TRANSMISSION OIL

The transmission doesn't have a filter. The oil filter is usually on the bottom of the engine. Both have a bolt that can be taken off to drain the fluids. Usually, they are on the bottom. Jack your car up and you should be able to find them, or refer to your manual.

2003 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA automatic gasoline engine. shifts hard sometimes.

YOUR TRANSMISSION SOUND LIKE LOW IN TRANSMISSION FLUID. YOU HAVE A FACTORY SEAL TRANSMISSION IF SLIPPING SHIFTING HARD TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE FLUID LEAK. YOUR TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE OIL FILLER TUBE AND DIP STICK.THE VOLKSWAGON DEALERSHIP HAS TO USE EQUIPMENT TO ADD FLUID THROUGH TRANSMISSION FILLER PLUG ON UPPER SIDE TRANSMISSION PAN. IF TRANSMISSION FLUID HAS NEVER BEEN CHANGED LET DEALERSHIP CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER AND TRY TO LOCATE LEAK IF FLUID WAS LOW. ALSO MAKE SURE ENGINE FINE TUNED AND TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT IS CORRECT.

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking:
1. Requirements for check:
1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface.
1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode.
1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied.
1.4. Engine idling.
1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF.
1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test.
1.7. Automatic gearbox oil capacity: 2,5 liter. Only ATF with VW designation may be used. Do not use any lubricant additives.
1.8. Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF - part number: VW G 052 990 A2
1.9. An ATF level check when transmission oil temperature is too low results in overfilling, when too high results in underfilling.
2. CAUTION: Too much or too little ATF will affect the operation of the transmission. The ATF level must be checked at regular intervals.

How and where you change automatic oil on

Its not as hard as people make you think. The car needs to be level. Its under the car in the middle. The easiest way is to check out you tube for the VW transmission oil change. Use this, just copy and paste. http://youtu.be/zuCNZhwIne0

Vw automatic trans won't shift

The 01M and 09A automatic transmissions do not have a dipstick and procedure requires measuring and maintaining a specified ATF temperature (which is neither cold or hot, but in between) during the ATF level checking. Special Volkswagen tools are required for this operation and it is therefore recommended that ATF level checking on 01M/09A transmissions be left to an authorized VW dealer.
