Question about 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

My 2000 montecarlo all the sudden got stuck in second gear then we cleared the codes bac to factory and it was perfect for a day then it started agin ,you can manually shift it up to drive but no over drive. it seems to be electical ,not mechanical. what is the problem

This only applies if you have an allison transmission, which based on the problem you are reporting I would guess that you do.

It sounds like your vehicle is stuck in limp mode. This is probably due to a bad NSBU switch(Neutral, saftey, back up) (if you have an allison transmission. Prior to 2002 the NSBU switches had a very poor seal which resulted in water intrusion into the NSBU switch causing corrosion. If the switch is corroded it is likley confusing your transmission. Unfortunatly you cannot repair the bad switch, it needs to be replaced. If you order one through Chevy it will cost around 200 dollars. I found one at merchant Automotive for 91 dollars. ( ).

The switch is relativly easy to replace. the electrical connections are the hardest part as they are glued into the switch. A little heat from a butane torch should soften it up and make the connectors slide off more easily. Other wise you may have to break the NSBU switch appart to remove the connectors.

I replaced the switch for the first time and it took me 15 minutes.

check the fluid in the slave cyclinder,it looks like a brake fluid tank, you need to use brake fluid in it also, look to see if you have one for brakes and one for the clutch, fill it up to full line ,hope to help

At the bottom of the tilt steering coloum is four bolts that, sometimes, come loose and, from time to time, will come out. If this is the problem have a flat bed tow truck take it to the mechanic. Again, if this in the problem, "YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT"! Trust me. VSA

I think I would start with checking fuel pressure. You should have at least 40PSI at the fuel rail. You might have someone help you our and turn on the key while you get under your vehicle and listen for the whirrr of the fuel pump. It should cycle for about 3 seconds when the key is turned to the "ON" position to prime the system to start. If you can not hear the pump run or it does not sound smooth I think you will need to replace it.

I got a 2000 grandcaravan an it stuck in 2 nd gear codes are 1784 0732 1782 0731 0700 0500 do i need to replace trnny or computer ?

Well code 500 is for the speed sensor which could cause most of the other codes.
I would probably replace the speed sensor in the trans and check the connections, clear the codes then drive it again and see how many codes come back.

My 2000 Dodge Caravan shifts from second gear to third gear way too soon and causes the engine to lug like on a manual transmission auto if you shift it to the next gear too soon, also It won't down-shift...

my van is doing the same exact thing but the othe day it was perfectly fine no slipping i went about 25 miles and i started off from a stop the engine rev and tranny slipped and the van died i restarted the van it runs great but acts as if there is no transmisson does not take power frm ngine when shfted does nothing please help

That is known as limp home mode it sounds like you have a trans code you will need to have diagnosed.Sometimes getting the code cleared will take care of the problem until code sets again.

Vw 2000 jetta tdi (a/t shifting problem)

Your right in as much as it shouldnt need complete over haul but a competent auto trans technician to clear the shift fault.It could be a solenoid or check valve that should be able to be repaired with out the transmission having to be removed.
