Check for spark.. pull one spark plug out set it on bare metal(away from cyl hole fuel could light from spark) turn vehicle over and look for spark should be a nice lightning bolt looking spark... blue spark is weak spark.. and see if it's getting spark...,, if not,,."try new plugs.,wires, distributor cap&rotor " also first.spray a little starting fluid down the injection system turn it over and see if it fires.if it does then it's a fuel issue prob not electrical... try that.hope it helps

My 1997 dodge truck 360 turns over and is getting fire but won't start.I bought a new ignition switch and the black box but it still won't start

Pull rubber hose off the side of plastic throttle body cover..spray starting fluid in where hose was connected, have someone turn key while you spray, if you don't have someone, spray for abt 5 seconds then try and crank. If cranks and runs briefly, its a fuel problem, fuel pump fuse, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter .

Fuel pumps are not working fires up if u spray start fluid in carb

It would greatly help to know make, model, and year, but in general you check fuel pump pressure with a gauge, and if the pump is electric, it always has a relay so there is the ability to have a safety cut out. Some vehicles use lack of oil pressure to cut out the pump relay, but most use the alternator output. Fuel injection usually has from 20 to 40 psi fuel pressure, and carb systems from 3 to 10 psi.

Why will it not start?

If it turns over but doesn't start, spray a small amount of starting fluid into the air cleaner input. If it fires and dies it is a fuel issue, If it doesn't fire with starting fluid it is ignition.

1996 f150 4.9 liter in line 6 turns over but will not fire

Hi spray starting fluid into the intake, if it starts you have a fuel problem, if not then you have a spark problem PS. be sure to hold your gas pedal down to allow the starting fluid into the motor

My 96 cobra starts great in warm weather,if it s 40 degrees or under it turns over but will not fire ,squirt a little starter fluid in the air filter and it fires right up,,what could be issue?

you say it will start right up if you spray starter fluid this should tell you something, the starter fluid takes the place of fuel(gas). the fuel is not getting to the cylinders when the temp gets cold. have the fuel pressure tested with a gauge to make sure its within spec.

Motor turns over but won't fire. Had a new starter motor and batteries. It appears to be getting fuel from the pipes that connect to the injectors.

spray a small amount of starting fluid in the air intake while turning it over, if it fires, it's not getting fuel.

Engine turns over but does not seem to fire. Checked plug and light white spark seen! timing all correct. Can coil be outputing too low?

Spray starting fluid into the intake. If it starts on the fluid then you have a fuel issue. If it doesn't start on the fluid then you have a spark or timing issue. Report back for more testing instructions.

one way to find out. spray starting fluid in the intake then try to start. if it starts then your problem is fuel related.
