this is a diesel not a gas engine i was just comparing the problem to something that i was more familiar with. Where in the world is the turbo injector and what is its function?

There is a Rev Limiter Built into the Computer. The plugs and Plug wires should be Fine But, Take the Plugs out and Check for Carbon or uneven Wear on the Electrodes.

There is no Turbo Injector. Check the PSI on the Turbo, It should be around 6 to 8.

Increase then decrease idle when engine is cold especially

cold engine idle surge. (problem)
RPM range of surge not stated
300-700 or 800 to 1500? (range is critical to diagnosis)

bad fuel
running summer fuel in winter (running old fuel?)
needs a tune up bad, see the list in the operator guide.
idle speed controller, sticking or EGR valve same. (clean them)
location not stated, so cant guess about local air temps.?
no other symptoms, lack of engine power? etc?
was it ok last week, or better, when was the last time it was OK?
1week, 1year?
surge , causes, on a tuned engine might be:
1: too lean. so lean the ISC can not control idle. rpm low, stalling
2: too rich, flooding, stalling, spark plugs foul (look at them)
3: weak compression in 1 or more cylinders.
4: bad spark.
5: air leaks, in the plenum causing , ISC to lose control.
why high RPM?

especially?
well that means it fails hot too.
and there is a simple tests. for hot surge.
is engine fully hot? 180F and holds solid there?
say rpm is about 800
and you turn on head lights, heater fan and (not AC) and defrost.
the RPM must hold or the ISC is failing.
ISC -= idle speed controls. (all EFI has this function)

2004 f350 when speeding up, lose all power to truck (radio, gauges, etc)

sound like faulty alternator voltage regulator. check alternator out put at battery with engine idling should be 13.5 - 14.5 volts at 2000 rpm if not lower you have faulty voltage regulator.also check alternator drive belt and check alternator for loose wires.besure turn off radio before disconnecting negative battery cable to keep from locking out radio losing code.

95 wrangler yj. has no power at high speeds

Have you had fuel pressure tested, and/or filter changed. Have you checked for plugged exhaust, such as catalytic converter? Quite often engine will also run a little hotter than normal when exhaust is plugged.

I have a dodge ram 1500 SLT,2001,2W/drive,V8-383..A GAS PIG !!!! Is there anything I can do on a budget to get any better mileage.I'm only getting about 10 MPG now. Any little bit would help in these...

pigs they are. here are a few basics to check first proper tire pressure low pressure causes high rolling Resistance, condition of tune up and filters check and or replace air filter, spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel filter, distributer cap, and rotor. take a look at the brakes make nothing is causing drag caliper slides rear shoes hanging up ect... as this will cause more power to move truck. if there is a lot of junk in the trunk extra weight get rid of it. there are aftermarket parts that help as well free flowing cat back exhaust system, k&n air filter this will increas air flow and give the truck a little more power as well. remeber RPM`s=MPG`s

2004 f 250 diesel smokeing and losing power

Is the check engine light on? Any more specific info like year, make, model, what color the smoke is, how many miles, etc........ This could help to narrow down the problem other than the smoke which all diesels do with quick acceleration. You might get a quicker answer if you are more detailed!

Loss of Power at Freeway Speeds

Sounds like itr is not getting enough fuel. Try or check the fuel filter for dirt or water, and also check the fuel pump pressure to see if it meet factory specs.

Power

How long have you had the F-150? Has it always seemed to be short on power, or is this something new? I suspect it's the engine (need for 2 more cylinders!) I have a 90 F-250, 5.8 V-8, and I think it's lacking power if I tow or put anything in the bed. Fine when it's empty! 5th gear sounds normal, it's really only meant for cruising on the highway, and flat at that. Maybe we should compare gas bills, you might like that 6 cyl a little more. countrycurt0
