I found the inertia switch I think it was on the passenger side on the firewall. I omed it and it seames to be ok. Or is that something else. It had two wires going to it.

  • candb7716 Jan 25, 2009

Tonight I ran some wires they are good from the fuel pump up th the connect together down to pump can't figure out why its not getting power. They

  • candb7716 Jan 28, 2009

Can't figure why i don't have any power to fuel pump. The wire are good down to the pump. Where they go into the cab I can't find where the go for power. So the relay and the inertia switch don't have any power to them is there a fuse or something I am missing I might just take it to a repair shop. P>S> I'am not a very good typer

  • candb7716 Jan 29, 2009

Sounds like maybe the distributor is off. I run into that alot after that kind of engine work. Reset the distibutor to #1 TDC. I hope that I helped you. Best wishes.

Have you checked the fuse, relay and inertia switch for the fuel pump? The inertia switch is located in the cab on the drivers side, up against the firewall, to the left of the brake pedal or behind the right kick panel (drivers side). If the switch was jostled to hard or kicked by accident it could trip. If it is tripped, lift up on the button, on the top of the switch, that will allow power to your fuel pump. I will be here for you until it is running, ok? So, comment whenever you need me. I really hope I helped you. If not, like I said I will be here. I do this because I like to help people. I'm disabled and need to do something. Take care and God bless, if it does help.

Did it have a button on top of it?

  • Bryon Agin Jan 25, 2009

If that switch you found doesn't have a button on it, then that's not going to be it. If it's not it, look behind the right kick panel. It's either the inertia switch or the Electronic Control Assembly. Now, remember if you do find the inertia switch, push the button in.

Have you checked to see if the fuel pump itself was good, by running a hot wire from the battery to the fuel pump?

  • Bryon Agin Jan 27, 2009

    How is everything going?

You wouldn't happen to have 2 fuel tanks would you? Do you have a switch on the dash, that you have no idea what it goes to? You didn't mention it, so I figured that I would ask.

Did you check fuse #9 : 20A Maxi Fuel Pump Relay Coil

    #16 : 20A Maxi Fuel Pump Feed

    Relay #2 : Fuel Pump

This is about all I got left for ya. I really hope that this information will get you cruisin'. If not, I am so sorry that I couldn't help you. I wish you the best, and let me know what it was, when you get a chance. Take care and God Bless.

I can give you a couple of possible causes(1)freeze plugs in the block, there round & look like drink coasters, but are brass(2)intake manifold gasket can be leaking from the corners where water jackets are/also the head gasket both are on all four corners,I don't know what motor you have, but there are pipes that are called crossovers that run from the back off the timing cover to the heater core on the fire wall, sometimes on top of the manifold on one side & there will be a hose connected to it possible bad hose or corroded tube?

White smoke is a sign of coolant burning. You most likely have a bad head gasket.

Just bought a 1987 Ford Ranger 2.9liter v6. Truck will start and run for a minute then it dies. Tried replacing Ignition Coil, that wasn't the problem. No lights come on to warn you it just dies.

I recommend checking / replacing both the fuel and air filters. If one of them is clogged it will mess up the fuel/air mixture which could cause the truck to stall. I hope this helps you out.

My 1987 ford tarus 3.0 ltr wagon has suddenly started chugging real bad like its gonna die and it sounds like its not getting gas. its also spewing out antifreeze from the back part of the engine..

You have a bad head gasket leak. Replace the head gasket.

Do not run the engine this way. If water gets into the cylinder that cannot be pushed out by the piston, you can have a hydraulic lock event that bends or breaks the piston or connecting rod, or bend or breaks the crankshaft. That would spell the end of that engine.

1987 Ford Ranger. Won't fire.

Ignition module comes to mind. If you've tested for spark (holding spark plug wire near the block when cranking) and the cap and rotor are good, it seems the module is the only other area left to try. Best of luck Patrick. Please post back with any other questions.

Remove alternator and take to a parts store they can test for free. That is most likely the problem.
