Question about 1999 Saturn SL
If you are leaking water you must first find out where it is coming from. If this vehicle has the 1.9L single overhead cam, they are known for waterpump failure. The water pump usually will make a rattling sound when it gets bad, and has a hole for leakage if it is shot. Look in the engine compartment, on the left [ pass] side at the bottom of the serpentine belt. The pulley to the right of the bottom pulley is the water pump.. Inside your right side wheel well there is a plastic guard that simply pulls out and off so that you can inspect or change the pump. You may want to take this off so that you can see what's going on there. If the pump is leaking or bad you will see it and or hear it with the motor running. With this inspection cover off, you will be able to inspect the hoses as well. If you don't see anything leaking, you may want to inspect your heater core hoses. This is oin the firewall on the driver's side. You will see 2 smaller 1 1/2 in. hoses. These go to your heater core. Look at them to see if they look like they are leaking. . One last thing to check for in antifreeze leaking out onto the inside floor of the car. Under the drivers feet. This is where the heater core is located and if it takes to leaking, it will drain onto the feet . Check these simple things and if you see something else leaking let me know and I can walk you through it. OH I don't know what you mean by thermostat light. There is a light for low antifreeze, which looks like a radiator, and a temp. light which looks like a thermometer. If you get a leak, the rad one will come on. If the car's overheating , the other one comes on. I hope this helps somewhat, let me know

pull the spark plugs and look down into the cylinders with a small bright flashlight, if the top of any piston is nice and clean and shiny and the others are not, you have a head gasket leak on that cylinder, it will be very obvious it will look like a brand new piston and the others will have carbon built up and deposits otherwise is your fan operating at all? do you have any heat from the heater? after the car is fully warmed up does the lower radiator hose get hot? please look into these things and get back to me i have seen on these cars many times the fan control circuit fails and the fans do not come on. You can run a ground wire to the fan relay under the hood and put a switch in the car to manually run the fans when it gets hot, i can explain how to do this if your fans are not operating please rate -jeff

It's probably dripping only when you are driving such as from a weephole where the water pump is located or it may be leaking onto a hot surface so the moisture evaporates, but will leave a stain. You should turn the vehicle off, let it cool and use a leak
pressure test with a tool you get from the parts store (they will let you buy a used one and take it back for full refund). You pump it up and then look closely with a strong light for any drips while there is pressure in the system and the vehicle is turned off.
