SOURCE: 2000 Honda Accord EGR Valve Error P0401

Jason,
-after you change the part you have to reset/clear the code

-this can be done by either:
(1) using the OBD2 code reader that Autozone used OR since option 2 (below) is very quick
(2) disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds (this will delete all codes/radio presets/etc) but it will also clear the 'check engine' code
-this is what I do AFTER i write down my radio station presets :)

-hopefully the new EGR valve resolves your issue after you CLEAR the code
...but that code just means a an insufficient amount of Exhaust Gas recirculation (pressure difference) used to keep the emissions in check
-if it comes back, then there are a few other fixes to try also

-let me know if you need further assistance
-please remember to rate me `fix-ya`if it works
thanks

SOURCE: Cleaned out egr intake and

It's the non-OEM EGR valve. I had the same problem, replaced the EGR valve with one bought at O'Reilly's, light came back on. Spent the $ to have the intake cleaned out too, and light came back on driving home from the shop. Mechanic suggested using a Honda EGR part as it has a different port opening as the non-OEM part. Sure enough, light has stayed out since. Took non-OEM EGR valve back to O'Reilly's and **** enought to get a refund on it.

SOURCE: 2002 accord code P0401 [egr insufficient flow detected]

the code you have may not be due to insufficient lift, more likely you have either high or low voltage running through egr. replace the valve and your issues should go away.

SOURCE: check engine light came on in my honda accord 1990...

this can make the light come on but so can alot of other things if it is running normal unhook the negative battery cable and let it sit like this for about 15 minutes this will reset everything in the system. If after doing this it comes back on imediately within a few hours there is some problem you should have it checked out to see why the light is on.

1406 code for 1996 cutless ciera

DTC P1406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position Sensor Performance
Circuit Description
The PCM monitors the EGR valve pintle position input to ensure that the valve responds properly to commands from the PCM and to detect a fault if the pintle position sensor and control circuits are open or shorted. If the PCM detects a pintle position signal voltage outside the normal range of the pintle position sensor, or a signal voltage that is not within a tolerance considered acceptable for proper EGR system operation, the PCM will set DTC P1406.
PCM - powertrain control module ,engine computer .
Diagnostic Aids
Check for the following conditions:
• Excessive deposits on EGR valve pintle or seat. Check for deposits that may interfere with the EGR valve pintle extending completely or cause the pintle to stick.
• Poor connection or damaged harness. Inspect the wiring harness for damage. If the harness appears to be OK, observe the EGR actual position display on the scan tool while moving connectors and wiring harnesses related to the EGR valve. A change in the display will indicate the location of the fault.
Important: If the EGR valve shows signs of excessive heat, check the exhaust system for blockage (possibly a plugged catalytic converter) using the Restricted Exhaust System Check.
Reviewing the Fail Records vehicle mileage since the diagnostic test last failed may help determine how often the condition that caused the DTC to be set occurs. This may assist in diagnosing the condition.

Got diagnostic code P1406 on 1996 Saturn SL1

P1406: EGR valve pintle position circuit. Try cleaning any carbon deposits in your EGR valve. That's where I would start. I hope this helped and good luck.

Service engine soon light on. code P1406

On chevey P1406 is the EGR pisition pentile circuit. So its telling you that its the EGR valve it self at the port in the intake manifold. You can try to clean this there must be carbon build up on the pentile . Howerver you must need a tune up or have something else that would cause this kind of a build up of carbon in the port . Or the valve could just be worn out you can check this by removeing the EGR valve flip it up side down spray some WD40 on the pentile valve if it leaks through the valve its no good

Whats does code P0401 mean ??

Hi,

P0401 means insuffient EGR flow:

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation, which basically sends some of the exhaust back into the engine cylinder again. Your error means that there isn't enough of the exhaust gas making it back to the intake manifold.
The first thing I'd check is the tubes coming off of the EGR valve to make sure they aren't clogged or broken. Then I'd check the EGR valve itself and the throttle body. The problem is usually:
1.) Carbon buildup causing a clogging.
2.) Broken hoses.
3.) Broken Valve.

Best regards.

Wath P1406 Code means on a GMC jimmy 1996,

It's an egr valve problem (exhaust gas return) egr position sensor.
Take off the egr valve and turn it over and see if there is carbon build up in the ports, if there is clean it out with a pipe cleaner and a little carbon cleaner, just spray a little into the ports and clean it out. If that doesn't cure the problem, then either the sensor needs replacing, and or the egr valve.

The Egr ports are plugged in the intake. Remove the throttle body elbow behind the throttle body, and clean out the carbon. I can walk you through it if you need me too. This is common on the 4.6
