Power steering pump shaft broken again

When you place the wheel in a hard lock position ,the power steering pump relies on the pressure by-pass valve to operate instead of the valves in the steering box to open and allow the pressure to by-pass back to the reservoir.. When you hit hard lock and you hear the motor load up just ease on the turn and the pump will operate as designed. The turn will still be the same -just that the pump is not under full load . Breaking the shaft is a sign of excessive load and a misaligned pulley so check that the belt is directly in line and the pump is square to the belt line.

My 2003 ford focus lost it's power steering, mechanic replaced the rack and pinion thing - lost steering again and now the mechanic says it is the power steering pump. The rack and pinion was replaced...

if the rack and pinion was not leaking or causing problems. then he may of made a wrong move! if the rack was fine before, and you just lost power steering. then it is most likely the power steering pump or the lines that go from rack to the pump. good-day ! if a rack goes bad, you will get a bad steering problem or just bad steering.

2000 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton. Sounded like a wheel bearing might be going out. what it is just broke and you can not turn the wheel without pulling hard. Checked Steering Fluid full pump not frooze up what...

Remove your belt and see if you can pull the power steering pump pulley off by hand. I have had the shaft of the pump break before and everything looks still good and fluid level still full. Then I removed the belt and the pulley and half of the broken shaft just pulled right out of the pump. The pump could still be bad even if the level is good. Lift front off of the ground and inspect your steering components and make sure your wheels turn freely.

Power steering not working tried adding power steering fluid didn't work.

The Pontiac power steering pump run off a shaft driven and not belt driven. This means that when the steering system is stressed instead of the belt slipping it puts a lot of stress on that shaft and could cause that to break. If nothing seems to effect the power steering I would have to guess that this is what happened and the power steering pump will have to be replaced.

Two power stearing pumps broke replacing the third now one lasted 1yr other one lasted 3 month both shaft broke why what about hydro boost

theres a mojor problem with these pumps, the shaft fractures it was a defect build call your dealer theres a revised pump to replace these and may be under warranty. they are also paying customer back for repairs.hydro boost also uses a power steering pump, the diffrence is theres no vaccum booster in hydro boost the brakes are power with the power steering pump, next thing is try useing a dealer part and make sure the pulleys are all lined up and replace the pulley on the pump also. hope this helps.

Cranks but wont turn over

you know. i took it to a mechanic and actually.... The timing belt cut the Crank Shaft Censor... So it was the crank shaft censor again. The wires were routed wrong from the first mechanic that "fixed" the car.
