if it is a solid bearing do it up as tight as you can.if it is a tapered bearing do it up untill the nut is touching the bearing check the hub for play if you have got play do the nut up a bit more until the play is gone in the hub.make sure you do not over tighten the bearing or the wheel will not turn freely.the wheel needs to spin with no drag.

The bearing is already shot so disregard what you hear about loosening the hub nut before you jack the car up. If you are doing this in your backyard it is VERY important to jack and support the car properly....you won't be able to use the parking brake because you'll be taking the disc/hat off. So work smart and safe.----Remove hub cap. :---Spray PB Blaster or another good rust killer in the hub, and all the nuts you will be removing. That means the pinch bolts for the toe link and the upper ball joint, plus the nut. Also the nut on the bolt of the lower arm. --Break the lug nuts AND 36mm hub nut a 1/4 turn.--Jack up the car and support. Remove lug nuts, then tire.----Remove brake caliper and support it to prevent damage to hose....I hung mine from the coil spring...The metal brake line fit in between the coils very nicely.----Remove disc/hat.----Remove the 36mm hub nut (you need buy a new one...really) -----Use a hub puller to press the axle shaft in through the hub, just a little bit...to break the rust. JUST A LITTLE! YOU ARE JUST BREAKING THE RUST SO IT WILL COME APART EASIER LATER. Spray it again and move on. Remove puller for now. -----Remove the springs, and retainers from the parking brake and remove the parking brake shoes.----Remove the parking brake levers coming through the rubber bushing .----Remove the Nut and Pinch Bolt from the Upper Ball Joint (at 12 o'clock) MAKE SURE YOU PUT THIS SAME BOLT BACK IN WITH A NEW NUT. THIS BOLT IS A LITTLE LONGER THAN THE TOE LINK BOLT!----Note: The pinch arms are just a term for the design....the bolt goes through a split....when the bolt is tightened, it clamps on the part that is meant to be held. Separate carefully....don't damage boot. I actually drove a stubby screw driver through the pinch arms of the knuckle to free it.

Remove the Nut and Pinch Bolt from the Toe Link (at 7 o'clock)

Support lower arm (I used a cinder block)

Remove nut and bolt through lower arm (at 6 o'clock)

The only thing holding you back now should be getting the hub / knuckle assembly off the axle shaft.

Attach your puller again to the hub and as you tighten it the hub / knuckle assembly should start coming off the axle shaft pretty easily....if it doesn't, spray it.

The hub must be pressed out of the bearing
The bearing must be pressed out of the knuckle.

The new bearing must be pressed into the knuckle.
The NEW hub must be pressed into the bearing.

I don't have a press and had a local machine shop do this part for $50.00

I didn't have all tools and had to buy a few.

24" breaker bar $20
36mm hub socket $17
Universal Hub Puller $ 21....AutoZone will buy back but I will keep
The other tools are just a couple of sockets and wrenches....I think 18mm.
A ball joint splitter....PB Blaster (I swear by this stuff)

You SHOULD replace the HUB and bearing. I got the hub and bearing at AutoZone for $121.....tools cost $58...Machine Shop was $50.

Total cost was about $230.....dealer wanted $750.

How do you remove a rear hub on a 04 kia sedona?


Call Kia with your VIN to make sure yours wasn't affected by the recall. You may be able to have that rear bearing replaced for free at Kia.

HUBCAP & OUTER BEARING REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE: 1. Remove the two (2) cross-tip locating screws on the brake drum.

2. Remove the brake drum.

3. Remove cotter pin and cover set.

4. Remove nut, claw washer, outer bearing and hub assembly.

5. Inspect inner bearing area in both hubs for any sign of moisture, corrosion, grease discoloration or contamination. If "yes" discard entire hub and replace with new assembly. If "no" proceed with outer bearing replacement below: 6. Carefully remove the outer bearing race from the hub. If the hub assembly is damaged then replace the hub assembly as a complete unit. (If inner seal is damaged while removing the outer race replace with new seal.)

7. Clean all contaminated grease from outer bearing cavity of the hub.

8. Install a new outer race into the hub using an appropriate race installation tool.

9. Apply grease MS511-33 WBG2 or equivalent to the hub assembly and the new bearing(s) especially to the shaded areas.

10. Install hub assembly, new pre-greased outer bearing and new claw washer on spindle. (Or alternatively, install entire new hub assembly, as supplied). Ensure bearings are properly seated then tighten hub/spindle nut, torque nut to 20-25 lb-ft (27-33 Nm.) Verify hub spins freely without signs of binding or excessive play.

11. Install new cover set and cotter pin; never reuse the old cotter pin.

12. Install new hub cap with Loctite # 5910(TM) or equivalent sealant to prevent moisture intrusion.

13. Install the rear brake drum using tapered locating screws.

14. Install rear wheels and torque lug nuts to proper specification. (65-79 lb-ft) (88-108 Nm, 9-11 kgm)

15. Lower vehicle.

If you mean the bolts that hold the back-plate, tighten to 35 ftlbs. If you mean the hub nut that hold the bearing assembly, tighten till firm, then back off the nut and tighten till there is no play in the bearing assembly. Do this with the wheel on. 4-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Rear wheel
    • Rear brake shoes
    • Rear halfshaft nut and loosen the halfshaft from the hub
    • Wheel hub and place it in a vise
    • Inner wheel bearing race from the hub
    • Antilock Brake System (ABS) sensor bracket and move the sensor aside, if equipped
    • Parking brake cable from the steering knuckle
    • Brake line from the wheel cylinder and support the knuckle
    • Lower shock absorber nut
    • Lower ball joint by holding the ball joint stud
    • Upper ball joint
    • Coil spring while noting the location of the insulator
    • Steering knuckle cam
    • Steering knuckle
    • Snapring and press out the outer wheel bearing race from the knuckle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    • New wheel bearing into the steering knuckle
    • Snapring to the knuckle
    • Wheel hub
    • Steering knuckle cam and hand tighten the bolt
    • Coil spring
    • Shock absorber lower nut. Torque the nut to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm) for 2002-04 models; 129 ft. lbs. (175 Nm).
    • Upper ball joint. Torque the nut to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
    • Lower ball joint. Torque the nut to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm). Align the steering knuckle cam and torque the bolt to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
    • Brake line to the wheel cylinder. Torque the brake line bracket bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) and the brake line fastener to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
    • Parking brake cable to the backing plate. Torque the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
    • ABS sensor bracket. Torque the bolt to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm), if equipped
    • Halfshaft nut. Torque the nut to 214 ft. lbs. (290 Nm).
    • Brake shoes
    • Rear wheel
    • Negative battery cable
  2. Fill and bleed the brake system.
  3. Check and adjust the wheel alignment as needed.

2-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

    • Negative battery cable
    • Rear wheel
    • Rear brake drum

How to replace rear wheel bearing on 2003 hyandia sonata


Hub & Bearing Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Release parking brake.
  2. Remove rear wheel assembly.
  3. Remove rear wheel speed sensor from carrier.
  4. Dismount brake caliper and support with mechanic's wire.
  5. Remove brake disc.
  6. Remove 4 axle hub mounting bolts. Special tool 09432-11000 (Typical) hyundai-08-00-6021.gif

  7. Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable gear puller), remove tone wheel.
  8. Remove carrier.
  9. Remove stakes and remove flange nut.
  10. Support bearing outer race flange and press rear axle hub out.
  11. Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable puller), remove inner race from axle hub.
To Install:

  1. Apply thin coat of grease to bearing contact surface and hub.
  2. Using and appropriate tool, press bearing into hub. CAUTION
    Do not press against outer race of wheel bearing.
  3. Install flange nut and stake nut until it meets concave portion of spindle.
  4. Install carrier.
  5. Use an appropriate tool to press tone wheel.
  6. Install hub/bearing assembly with rounded portion of outer race facing up.
  7. Install 4 hub/bearing assembly bolts and rotate hub to seat bearing.
  8. Measure wheel bearing starting torque with a spring balance or equivalent device.
    • Starting torque should measure 15.9 in lb (1.8 Nm) or less
  9. Install brake disc.
  10. Mount brake caliper.
  11. Install rear wheel speed sensor to carrier.
  12. Install rear wheel assembly.

Loose rear wheel, believe it is the bearing. How do I repair it?


drum brakes you remove rear wheel- speed sensor-grease cap-flange nut-outer bearing-brake drum-inner grease seal-inner bearing-drive the bearing races out of the drum hub.to install -install the inner and outer bearing races.apply grease to the bearings and hub cavity.then you install the inner bearing -inner grease seal-brake drum-outer bearing-flange nut torque it to 159 to 192 ft lbs. THE REAR DISC BRAKE WHEEL BEARINGS-you have to remove rear wheel -wheel speed sensor-brake caliper and rotor-rear axle hub bolts-tone the wheel with tool 09445-21000-carrier assembly-nut after unstaking it-press out the rear axle hub-remove the bearing inner race with tool 09445-21000-remove the bushings from the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and 09545-21100.to install -press in the bushings to the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and 09545-21100- press in the bearings to the hub with tool 09221-21000.tighten the flange nut to meet the concave portion of the spindle-press in the tone wheel with tool 09221-21000-torque the nut to 191 ft lbs -install the hub and bearing assembly to the backing plate and torque the bolts to 88 ft lbs-install the brake caliper and rotor.install the wheel speed sensor if equipped.install the rear wheel.TO BUY THE TOOLS TO DO THE JOB.LOOK UP KENT MOORE TOOLS ON INTERNET.
