This means that the oil pressure is low or the oil pressure sending unit is bad. Usually the oil sending unit is bad. They go out often, so I would start with having the oil pressure sending unit replaced. It is not expensive, usually and could correct the problem without expensive work. As always if the oil has not been changed regularly then change it and that may turn the light out too. Good luck and have a nice evening. Peter
Sorry to say, but oil sending unit has nothing to do with oil pressure. Best case scenario for low oil pressure would be you need an oil and filter change. Better case scenario would be you need to drop oil pan and clean screen on bottom of the oil pump. Worse case scenario would be due to excessive miles on engine which causes wear on compression rings and/or crank shaft bearings where oil pressure originates from. It might be good to have a compression test done on all cylinders by a certified mechanic or at least someone who knows what they're doing. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Good luck! over4dy
In my experience with neon's the sending unit is most likely not the problem. I feel that you will find that the oil pressure is actually low and that the oil pump is going out. If you change the sending unit and it doesn't change then you will know for sure. The sending unit is located on the side of the block near the oil filter. It has one wire and simply unscrews and the new one screws back in and re-attach the wire. Hope this helps. Good luck.
it is either the oil sending unit or the oil pump remove oil sending unit from the side of the block and do a manual pressure check should read atleast 30 psi if not the oil pump is bad if it does then sending unit is bad
