I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited with the 4.7 v8 that overheats while just sitting still idling but as soon as you start down road it starts to cool off!!! and ideas? i just replaced the high pressure line on the power steering which also operates the hydralic fan motor? power steering is working fine though
Is the radiator fan coming on and staying on, or not coming on at all?? i was having the same problem, and it turned out to be a fan relay switch which was pretty easy to replace. around 40 bucks, and maybe 30-45 mins.

Check the IAC (idle air control) if its plugged or dirty clean the port with carb cleaner you can find it on the intake under the resonator box its the bottom one the top is the TPS which could also be bad.
To remove the front rotors,you first need to support the vehicle with a jack stand.Then remove the wheel.
Once the wheel is out of the way you need to take the two bolts off of the backside of the caliper, then compress the caliper and lift it off of the rotor.
Now you should be able to easily remove the rotor from the Jeep.

If you haven't changed the plugs or had the fuel system cleaned, now would be a good time to do it. The number 1 culprit for rough idles is dirty injectors or plugs. You can try an injector cleaner in a can (or bottle) for under $10 and see if it helps, and then work from there. If there isn't any improvement then if you are able to, check the plugs for any gunky buildup and if you find a bad plug, make sure you replace them all (or have them replaced) at the same time.
Try to flush the system And inspect radiator. When moving the engine is also cooled by air. Make sure the water is circulating trough the manifold and the heater core. You can do this by atching a garden hose to each hose one at a time. You may also want to check the waterpump & thernostat..
This might help you as it looks as though you have an electric fan to cool , there should be a sensor on your radiator hoses upper and lower.they are actually switches triggered by the coolant temperature in side the hose. While your Jeep is sitting idle, shut off the AC as it adds to the heat off the engine not to merntion useing more gas. you should make sure both high and low speeds on the coolant fan work. good luck if this does'nt help check out the post, with more, on the 1995 Jeep heating up..
Many cars have a thermoswitch threaded into the radiator that activates the fans when engine exceedes normal optimum opperating temp. This sensor may have failed , or one of the 2 wires that go to it may have come unpluged or broken
