Vehicle location of transfer case control module on 1996 GMC Jimmy

I am looking for the vehicle location of the transfer case control module. I have found different information stating the location, however, I'm looking for more input still. I have found sources stating it's behind center of instrumental panel, please allaberate. Also, some sources say it's behind passenger right kick panel & others say that is part of the PCM & there is no separate transfer case control module. I am looking for more input still.

More likely worn out bearings which are periodically seizing - have you checked the PS pump with the belt off? You should also check the other devices run by the belt for bearing trouble, particularly the idler pulley. Periodic seizing problems with worn bearings on any of these can cause the truck to stall and the low pressure signal.

How can I tell whether the transfer case control module is defective and needs to be replaced?


Need to have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , see if a scan tool will communicate with it , see if it will show data PID'S .

The simple answer is to replace the TCCM (transfer case control module).
Being both cheap and inquisitive, I wanted to investigate further, and I will provide a more in-depth answer.

This answer pertains to various GM vehicles. These include the Chevy Blazer, GMC Jimmy, S10, S15, Sonoma vehicles from 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, & 2005.
Specifically the 15748800 module for the NP8 option 4 button automatic 4X4 NVG-236/246 transfer case.

I doing research online, I find that 15154323 might be an alternate TCCM, and that GM redesigned the module and now sells the replacement for this module with a 12577412 part number for about $300.

This information refers to the 15748800 module.

If the driver attempts to switch the transfer case into any other mode, the transfer case makes noise as it shifts, the service 4x4 light comes on and the newly selected mode indicator light starts to flash.

Pin F4 should be monitored with either a lamp or meter. This pin should be high or 12 volts when in 2 wheel drive, and low or ground when in 4 wheel drive.
A quick test of the system is to ground the F4 pin, recycle the ignition, and try shifting the transfer case into and out of 4 wheel drive. ( I used a lamp based test light to be safe. Do not an LED based one.) If the mode indicator light remains steady and the Service 4X4 does not light, proceed with this repair procedure. If this does not resolve the issue, please proceed to troubleshoot the front vacuum system, 4X4 solenoid, 4X4 actuator, front axle, or front axle indicator switch.

If this test appears to resolve the issue, you will need to remove the TCCM module from the vehicle. Bend the 8 tabs away from the back cover. Remove the top cover, unscrew the board from the back cover / plate. turn over the board at a static safe work station, and measure the indicated 10,000 ohm SMD resistor. In this module, the resistor is required to operate near it's limits, and I believe that the conformal coating trapped heat and caused the resistor to fail. You can check other resistors nearby for a relative comparison. If found to be open, the resistor can be replaced with a higher power value 10,000 ohm SMD resistor, or a conventional 10,000 ohm resistor with wired leads.

The TCCM should be checked for corrosion on the connectors and cleaned if nessacary. The module can then be restored to the vehicle, and your 4X4 should work normally.

1996 GMC Jimmy manual - need help with 4 wheel drive - stuck in 4 wheel low and can't get out


Try to place the vehicle in park, then reverse, move the vehicle a few feet in reverse, then switch to neutral but NOT DRIVE. Attempt to take it out of low again and then go to drive. This is the method I had to use occassionally when my vehicles would get stuck in low.

4x4 push button is not working about how much does


This is something you can do yourself if you have ever worked on a vehicle before. The part you need is called a front drive actuator valve. It costs about $ 50.00, GM part # 15165891.
Here is some more infor about it:

Main 4wd Components:
TCCM
- Transfer Case Control Module - Located behind the glove box. This is the electronic 'brains' behind the shifting.
Switch - The push button switch in the dash - driver input/indicator.
Encoder Motor - Located on the transfer case - This is what actually shifts the transfer case, and tells the TCCM what position it is in.
Vacuum Switch - Also located on the transfer case - This is what sends vacuum to the vacuum actuator (see below) when the transfer care is in 4HI or 4LO.
Vacuum Actuator - Located under the battery tray - This is what engages or disengages the front driveshaft.
Front Axle Switch - Located on the front axle - This is what tells the TCCM when the front axle is engaged.

4wd will not engage, or engages intermittently. You can hear the click of a switch under or near the battery, but doesn't always engage.


Hi:
The main parts to the 4WD system are the transfer case, the shift control motor, and the shift control module. if you remove the shift control motor from the transfer case, and leave it plugged into the harness, you should be able to see if it functions thru all settings, such as 4wd high or low or 2wd. If not, then you need to figure out which part is bad, the motor or the control module. If it does work as it should, then you have some sort of transfer case problem.

2000 gmc jimmy is in 2wh drive,I switch to 4wh or 4whlow,or 4whauto and the light keeps flashes but never engages


Hi:
There are only two major components to that system:

A shift control motor, that is mounted to the transfer case, and a shift control module, which is mounted in the center dash area, below the radio. The module is the most likely suspect to fail, but the shift motor is a possibility still.

I have a 97 chevy tahoe and the 4x4 wont lock in i just replaced the actuator and it just blinks on 4x4 . i do have 12 volts @ the harness to????


Your transfer case could be locked up. Try pulling the shifter motor (servo) off of the transfer case and manually shifting the vehicle into 4x4. Make sure to block the wheels as it will roll if you shift into neutral. If you cant shift it, you need to have a professional look at the insides of your transfer case.
