1 take the plastic fan housing from radiator, than You will notice that the fan has 4 bolts that attaches to the water pump axle, loos remove all four bolts, and slide the fan towards the front, remove the fan blade, after remove serpentine belt, bottom hose, top hose, heater hoses and finally nuts and bolts that attaches water pump to timing cover

You need a special tool , a fan nut tool , it's like a 1-1/2 " ,actualy a little smaller , i use a 1-1/2" wrench and smack it with a rubber mallet , but there is a tool for it , i think checkers auto has a loan -a-tool program , but to buy it is expensive , it is normal threaded - counter clockwise is off . a special tool holds the 4 bolts on the pulley and the other part of the tool fits on the big nut . sorry i can't fix ya , cuz who has a 1-1/2" wrench or the special wrench in there home arsinal .

Can i replace the water pump in a 1997 Nissan pickup without messing with (replacing) the timing chain?

D21 Pick up? The water pump is not timing belt driven. It is drive belt drive with a pulley held on with 4 bolts.

So, yes, the water pump can be replaced without touching the timing components. :-)

I have a 1997 dodge grand caravan with a 3.8L I replaced the radiator cooling fan relay switch and fuses but when idling for more than 5 mins. the van starts overheating

Water pump impeller could be bad or thermostat is stuck shut. I would change thermostat first,easy to change, cost under $10.00 Water pump is hard to change in this van, you have to remove right tire, then inside wheel well, then loosen 3 top motor mount bolts which will lower engine so you can get to water pump and tensioner.

How do you change the water pump on a 1997 Dodge Dakota 6cyl 3.9liter w/ air?

1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
* Negative battery cable
* Fan and clutch assembly from the pump
* Fan shroud and fan assembly.
* If you're reusing the fan clutch, keep it upright to avoid silicone fluid loss!
* Lower hose
* Water pump (8 bolts)
3. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the bolts, in sequence, to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
