When I make a left turn only, and break, it sounds like something is rubbing or grinding. If I turn left without breaking, I don't hear anything. No noises when turning right or braking while driv

My guess right now is the bearings. It really is not that hard to do as far as what has to be done but it is going to take some time. Getting the bad part off is the battle. Putting it back together much easier. I agree check the brakes and rotors first but that is a quick inspection.

If the problem is as bad as it sounds, you may be close to parking it until fixed.
Normally, if you turn left, your are "loading" the right side, and visa-versa.
Think of it this way.
Picture a car going fast around a turn. The wheel on the inside of the turn might actually lift off of the ground, it is "unloaded".
With that thought in mind, look closely at the right front wheel. Start with the brake pads and /or rotor ( what the brake pads rub on to stop the car.)
Check the rotor inside and out. A good flashlight will do.
Pull the right front wheel and see if the pads are worn out or the rotor is no longer smooth, but "torn up" on the inside or the outside.
If the pads and the rotor is fine, next look at the wheel bearings.
This will be a bigger problem, probably a shop needs to check this out.

Sounds like you have a bad axle joint. Does it get worse on a turn. Can you hear it better in a turn. Bad joint will grind, growl , click, clank and eventually if left go without repair break and fall off the car with lots of collateral damage.

Grinding noise when step on the break.

Hi,

The grinding noise could be indicative that the brake pads have worn off and the metal backing is grinding with the brake disc. This is further supported by the emergency brake light indicator which would illuminate (even when emergency/park brake is not engaged) when the brake fluid is low or the pads are too thin or gone (as in your probable case). Even though the grinding sound is only on the left side, it would be to your advantage to repalce both sides. Additionally, pls have the disc themselves checked as they may need re-surfacing.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

2005 Ford Explorer is making a grinding noise

I had some issues with my 2005 explorer left rear. It was making a creepy old door sound at low speeds and then a high pitched whisel at high speeds. That turned out to be a broken wheel bearing and had it replaced. Note each wheel has two wheel bearings. After that a new noise developed that sounded like metal scraping/ grinding metal. It end up being the brake dust cover got bent when they replaced the bearing and it was rubbing something, the fix for that was bending it so it didn't rub. I hope this helps.

Just bought 2002 expedition triton v8. When turning the steering wheel you can hear a squeeking grinding sound from the front axel! Truck still turns properly! I checked power steering fluid and its full...

Suggest you jack the truck up and support it on the frame. Then have someone get in and start and turn the wheel slowly in both directions. Also take a close look for rub signs in the wheel wells, if the tires are bigger than recommended, they could rub when turning tightly.

MY JEEP SHAKES WHEN I'M STOPPING OR SLOWING DOWN. IT ALSO TENDS TO SHAKE WHEN I'M ON THE FREEWAY GOING OVER 50. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS CAUSING THIS? THANKS,

Four things to check; tires, shocks/struts, differential, and breaks.

tires: check to see all the tires are balanced and at the proper pressure

differential: if you are hearing a grinding sound and there is oil dripping from the rear or front differentials you should et them reaired

shocks/struts: push down on the bumpers if you are able to bottom out the susspension then you need to replace the shocks/struts

breaks: if your breaks are squeaking or you hear metal grinding then you may need to replace the brakes

the differential would be your most likely candidate for the problem the way you have described this problem, but don't rule out the others because it may be a combination of the problems.

Ever since I've had my 2002 trailblazer the back driver's side window won't go up or down. At times the window seems to fall down about an inch or so and I can full with the switch and can...

your window is driven using a cable drive system. kinda like bicycle brake & gearshift cables.
these systems are prone to break. i just wonder why it made noise for so long without breaking.
what you probably need is a window regulator assy.. napa sells them for $191.00 with a new
motor. the hardest part of doing the job is getting the door pannel off without breaking anything

your breaks should be under warenty Id take the car back and have thim test dirve it.If they are mecanics thay shoud figer it out I know its aggervating but they dont want complantes and loose custmers .Most of the newer vehicles use a metlaick break pads, thas some times will make a grinding fell or slight noise but will quit after a short while...The only other thing I could think of is make a whell hub bearing is going bad...Best of luck
