Think radio was shorted out

My husband used metal plyers in the lighter, I think he shorted the radio.
Any suggestions on how to fix, is it just a fuse? Sharon

Check the Panel on the Lower Left of the Steering wheel on the Lower dash for a Blown Fuse. Hope that is all that it is.

Change the fuse....for the cigarette lighter... they often share the same fuse... if that is an aftermarket stereo it may have a fuse of it's own... but you would need to remove the radio to check that.

Just got 1998 Chevy Lumina. At first could not get the radio to turn on. Finally pressed power button firmly, radio on but now will not turn off if the car is running the radio is on? Suggestions?

You may be able to remove the black on/off button and using plyers grasp the metal control rod behind it and give it a gentle pull to get the radio to turn off. Your best bet is to remove the radio and replace it with an aftermarket unit. The cost to repair the factory unit could be expensive

Which fuse controls the cigarette lighter and radio, mine are not working

In the integrated power module, find 20A fuse 5. Replacing it should get both the cigar lighter and radio operating again

1998 Honda Accord: Radio/Cig lighter keeps blowing 20 amp fuse in the passenger side fuse box. Probably have a ground somewhere, but don't know where to start to look for it. Any ideas? Thank you in...

Start with a visual inspection of the cigarette lighter. The chromed walls are the negative pole, and the bottom part is the positive (12v) pole. Evidently these two parts should not come in contact with each other, and if they do bend the metal with a fine screw driver. Make sure the vehicle is off, and preferably, with the fuse taken out, because the screwdriver will make a short. Also check that nothing metallic has dropped into the hole of the lighter, such as a screw. If nothing is found, take out the lighter socket and disconnect it. Check if the fuse continues to blow, and if this is the case, you know that the lighter is not the culprit. I left the radio as a second choice because reaching the back of the radio to unplug the harness is difficult, it requires disassembling the center console (Check elsewhere on fixya for the procedure, i think i published it once). Unplug the radio and see if this stops the fuse from blowing. If it stops shorting, then you know its the radio, but if it doesnt, then the wiring harness is shorting somewhere, in which case, i would recommend a mechanic, unless you are really good at disassembling dashboards, and checking for continuity and voltage on electrical circuits.

While using a GPS car charger there was an electrical problem which caused the cigarette lighter and the clock to stop and may be other things will not work properly . What shall I do?

check the fuse for the cigarette lighter and the clock is on the same circuit I think,do you know what caused the problem in the first place, check to see if there is a piece of something metallic(gum wrapper, etc)in the bottom of the cigarette lighter that could possibly cause a short.

The clock and the radio went out in my 2003 Dodge Caravan. Also the lighter I use for a charger is out. Do I simply need a new fuse? I think the charger may have broke off a piece into the lighter that may...

it is possible that the remaining piece of your charger has shorted it out and blown the fuse. If you look through your owners manual it will tell you the location of the fuse panel and which fuse is for the cig lighter and radio........sorry im not familiar with these locations on your vehicle or i would tell you exactly where it is
hope this helps!
