Check the ground leg to your engine.. it runs off the neg. battery terminal. will connect to frame and engine.. pull it off, wire brush it put it back.. you radio will work, 'cause it draws much less current, and is grounded in dash.

SOURCE: Malibu dome entry/exit light does not turn on when doors open.

My wife showed me that one- the doom lite in center of roof is 3 postision, slide it to passanger side then back to center. Its a poorly made switch but once set in middle the lites will come on/off with door openning/closing. Be aware it dims delays when going off, not immediate.

SOURCE: 2003 chevy S10. some gauges & light don't work

When these gauges start going on GM autos it is almost always a new instrument cluster. On 2002 to 2006 GM's we replace 5-10 per week. (We have over 220,000 vehicles in our fleet)

SOURCE: '97 Malibu, dash lights don't work

Check your fuses. The dash lights are on a different fuse. Also check dimmer switch. If its not one, then it is the other. Try working dimmer switch quickly back and forth( with the lights on when it's dark so you can see if they come on).

98 Chevy Malibu won't start

If it cranks then it is turning over but I think you are saying it will not fire up. Either way Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals with sandpaper until you see shiny
metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. Have a load test done on the battery to check for failed cell.

When start car all gauges go to max then drop down to normal.

there is a fuse for the dome lights that has no power you need to check it for power. it shold have power all the time, it feeds the radio, dome lights, power locks, and keyless entry.
