Question about 2005 Peugeot 405
Sometimes when starting the car the engine is completely dead. alights come on battery seems okay but engine does not turn over. If you hold the key in the start position for 20 seconds sometimes the engine will turn over. Garage sat they can't recreate the problem and have checked all leads and wiring, but this happens at least once every day. Could it be the starter solinoid? They managed to find a water leak while trying to resolve this problem but that doesn't really help. A few weeks ago every fuse in the dash fuse box blew, all 30, could this be connected?
If the starter motor is sticking, it can draw a large current. If there is power down to the starter motor while its not starting then the starter is faulty. You can test this with a multimeter or just a test bulb connected to the smaller of the two wires on the starter, while cranking.Check you have a good earth from the battery to the engine. If the bulb lights up but no engine cranking then its a faulty starter.
