How do i align the starter and flywheel so that the horrible squealing sound stops at every start up?


these veh don't have a shim procedure for allignment. sounds like the shaft on the starter is bent or the bolts are not tightened or cross threaded. recheck bolts. if that's not the issue then I would return the starter for a replacement. (note: it happens, once in awhile you will get a bad part, new or rebuilt)

My car seems to put itself in "A/C" mode every so


Quite common for the air cond to switch on usually after key movements.The main problem really is the squealing belt.Check this belt for wear and looseness.There should only be 6-8mm of belt deflection between two pulleys.Adjustment by loosening the idler pulley that runs against the belt and tightening the long bolt behind it(from memory)or it will have a similar type of set up.
If the belt has any perishing or cracks,especially on the ribs inside the belt,replace it.

How do you change the belt


BELT ADJUSTMENT
MANUAL BELT TENSIONER
Loosen rear mounting bolts of idler pulley or power steering pump (if equipped). Loosen power steering pivot
bolt and lock nut (if equipped). Turn adjusting bolt to tighten belt to specification. See BELT ADJUSTMENT
SPECIFICATIONS

For the routing just draw a picture befor romoving the belt. There are 4 different routings and I don't have enough info for yours. Without the proper tool the adjustment spec won't do you any good so before you take off the old belt get a feel of how thight it is and try to match the new one. best thing to do it make it loose enough so it squals when turning the steering
wheel to the extream or stop then tighten the belt little at a time till it doesn't squeal then just go a little bit more. If the belt is too tight it will wear out bearings in water pump,Alt, pullys ect. If its too losse it will squeal and wear out the belt so take your time on the adjustment.

Timing belt on 1996 mazda protege slips during startup


Hello, this to me sounds like your fan belt slipping (not timing belt). To adjust the fan belt you need to undo your bolt on the alternator, pull it tight onto the fan belt and while holding it tight do the bolt back up tightly. this will stop yoour fan belt from slipping. I hope this helps.

How do I replace the brakes on a 1995 sc400.


  1. Remove wheel.
  2. Remove the bottom caliper bolt, and turn caliper up
  3. Remove following parts:
    1. Two anti-squeal springs.
    2. Two brake pads.
    3. Four anti-squeal shims.
    4. Two pad wear indicators.
    5. Four pad support plates.
  1. Install new pad support plates.
  2. Install pads as follows:
    1. Install wear indicators on pads.
    2. Apply disc brake grease to both anti-squeal shim. Then install shims on each pad.
    3. Install pads with wear indicators facing downward.
    4. Install anti-squeal springs.
  1. Remove small amount of brake fluid from reservoir.
  2. Place a wooden plate on pistons, and press pistons in with hammer handle or equivalent.
  3. Install calipers and bolts. Tighten to specifications.
  4. Ensure brake fluid is at Max line.

When starting our 2005 Toyota Sienna with the air conditioner on the belts squeal, how do I fix this problem? How difficult is it to change the belt?


There should be an idler pulley nearby to your aircon compressor, with an adjusting bolt to tighten your belt. If the belt is tight and still squeals, there are allsorts of weird and wonderfull things that are applied to them to stop squealing. Vaseline won't hurt the rubber but it will stop the squealing...hope this helps.

Aloud squeal.


You need to tighten the altinator belt..
It squeels and falls off because it is too loose..
Losten the two bolt a bit on the altinator so it will move..
Put the belt on - loose is ok right now..
Use a very large scewdriver or a crowbar - find leverage - to push on the altinator in the derection that tightens the belt..
Once you have some good force on it - keep the force on it as you tighten the bolts..

This will take care of the problem.. ;o)

Need belt diagram!

If you are re-using the drive belt, be sure to install it in the same orientation as it had before removal (same side facing the wheel well). Insert the belt from above. Turn it "sideways" to fit it in between the alternator pulley and the AC pipe. Correctly tension the drive belt using its tensioner pulley. Before installing the plastic covers and wheel, temporarily install the IC pipes and battery negative cable and start the engine to check the belt operation. If the belt squeals it is either misaligned or too loose. I found that my old belt squealed when installed "backwards" from how it was removed. It did not squeal when installed in the same orientation. If you have messed with both drive belts, spray a little water on one belt at a time to see which is squealing. A misalligned belt will stop squealing for a very short time after water is sprayed on it, but the squealing quickly comes back louder than before. If the belt is loose, the squealing will immediately get louder. Also note that there is just a little play in how the alternator bolts in. If misalignment is a problem, loosen all four bracket mounting bolts (this may require again removing an IC pipe), reposition the alternator, and tighten the bolts to see if this helps. Do not tighten the belt too much because this can lead to shaft bearing failure over time.

2003 Lancer ES High pitch squeal and constant squeak


Shortly after replacing the serpentine belt in my lancer, the same thing happened. It is NOT the timing belt. Belts squeal when they slip. If your timing belt slipped it would cause your car to run funny.

have somebody check the belt for wear (or do it yourself), replace if necessary. If it doesn't need replacement, just tighten it.

If you have the 4cyl engine that I have, the tightening is kind of a pain in the ****. Not a great design by mitsubishi. There's a pulley near the front right corner of the engine in front of the alternator. the belt should be running around this pulley GROOVE SIDE OUT. This is the tension pulley.

To tighten:
1) Lightly loosen the bolt in the center of the pulley (slightly loosen, DO NOT REMOVE).
2) Under that pulley there's another bolt. You can see that the bolt goes through a piece of metal
attached to the back of the pulley. Figure out which way you need to turn the bolt to move the
pulley toward the front of the car. (i don't remember if it's right hand thread, or left hand) This
puts extra tension on the belt. You probably don't need much. Over tensioning the belt can
cause pulley bearing failure. If you haven't done this work before, ask someone for
help
. It's better to tighten a little bit, a few times rather than overtighten once.
3) Don't forget to ReTighten the bolt in the center of the pulley.

If there's lots of cracks and pieces missing on the ribs or grooves of the belt you should replace it first.
