It could be the pump or screen, or worn out bearings.
As the oil heats up it gets thinner and can leak out thru the worn bearings.

SOURCE: Low Oil pressure light in idle at stop

Depending on the amount of miles, maintenance records, or how hard the car has been driven either by a previous owner, or by yourself. The engine's main crankshaft bearings or the connecting-rod bearings could be excessively worn.

Also, it could very well be a wiring problem to the sensor and/or computer causing the problem.

SOURCE: 2002 gmc yukon, rich fuel code, low fuel pressure @40

you may have two oxugen sensors on your yukon. if so the oxygen sensor that controls that bank may be bad. from what you mentioned in your complaint, it sounds like it is the oxygen sensor.

This could be a number of things but i think that your problem sounds like a vacuum leak or an EGR problem. Try listening for leaks and try un-plugging the EGR solenoid valve one time.

I have very low oil pressure on my bmw R 65,the oil lite comes on when oil is a bit warm?

Dear Bryan
Some of the reasons are:
1) An engine that is just plain worn out. If bearings are loose, each loose bearing will drop the oil pressure a little bit, as it is "hemorrhaging" the pressure away.
I should not suspect this is your problem, but you did not indicate your mileage, or why you installed rod bearings.
2) a plugged oil pump pick-up screen.
3) a worn or worn-out oil pump. See second paragraph under # 1.
I have blown 2 engines with oil pump problems.
One, the pump was worn out, one other one the pump was a bad casting, defective from the factory.
If you should choose not to install an oil pressure gauge on your car, I should suggest you have your oil pressure tested, as the oil lights are not accurate always.
God bless your efforts.

What does low oil pressure on 2008 Chevy Impala 3.5 V6 LS

Do you mean what causes low oil pressure? This is a very reliable engine for the most part. If the oil light is on or gauge is reading low, have the oil pressure sensor inspected for failure. These sensors do go bad.

Oil gauge looses pressure at times. For 1989 Chevy 1500 pickup. What does this mean?

It could be the sending unit, or the engine could really be loosing oil pressure. Low oil pressure can be a number of things including a weak pump, blockage at the pickup screen, or worn bearings.

Pressure regulator in the oil pump is bad or there is significant main bearing wear

Loosing oil pressure on idle check engine light on

First, verify actual oil pressure using an external test gauge.
There are two major reasons for oil pressure loss. first is worn engine bearings (usually rods but can be crankshaft or cam bearings as well)
Other reason is a oil pump screen that has been partially obstructed with hard carbon deposits due to low quality, high paraffin oil.
Chances are that the next fifteen people will tell you to replace the oil pump. 99% of all pumps do not fail by themselves. Replacing the pump will often raise pressure for an hour or so but the problem will shortly return.
The cause is a worn bearing, allowing pressure bleed off at the crankshaft.
The pump can be internally scored by debris from a bad bearing but even a scored pump will often not loose more than a small percentage of it's pumping ability. It is always a good idea though to replace the pump whenever a bearing or bearings are being replaced.
If you don't yet hear any knocking, still could be a bad pressure sender though so check as I recommended before going into any larger repair.
You won't see bearing wear with your eyes...you need to measure it using plastigage.
good luck....hope it's just the sending unit!!

Oil pressure low when idling. When running engine

first check the oil level if its good then change the oil if you hav'nt done so all ready and add some LUCAS oil stablizer this may help alot if not then the oil pump is most likley going bad and needs to be replced before the engine lacks oil and cause the engine to seize.

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with the ''Low Oil'' light on.

may be the oil sending unit is bad
may be the oil pump
is there any noise in the engine?
have the oil pressure check at a repair shop to make sure you have enough oil pressure
if it's ok then have the shop replace the switch while they have the old one out to check the pressure

Changed oil pressure switch, still no oil pressure

The fuel pump on that model runs through the oil pressure switch so that if the truck looses oil pressure,It kills power to the fuel pump to prevent engine damage.you need to find the cause of the low oil pressure reading(possibly a bad oil switch). That would be the cheapest place to start,or have it checked with a mechanical gauge.Good luck,
