SOURCE: Geo tracker wont shift after clutch and clutch cable replaced

this is common.
it is caused because NO ON ever changes the cable at 100k miles.
it then wears a groove inside the cable and jams where you cant see.
(got my car dirt cheap cuz no one could figure this out)

the next thing to happen (toss coin) is the fire wall cracks or the clutch pedal spline strips.
full story here,

now you know the why , so now correct all the damaged caused by a $45 cable.

all parts are at suzuki , every single one.

SOURCE: 92 tracker is losing power

squawk: started to miss and bog down

is this a 8v or 16v.? the cmp is not noted for failure, rare.

your failure to get the CEL DTC codes is bad.
you must NEVER ignore DTCs'

pre 96's the light comes on and it means gross sensor fail.

(reset the ses mileage switch on federal versions of car )
ses comes on 50k and 80k repeat and not found on any Calif car.

place the jumper (paper clip ) and stop guessing.
get that code.

if car dont restart , you can keep DLC jumper installed and it will tell you what failed.

the ECU will tell you what failed, just listen to it.
how ever if no CEL , that dont mean all is well.

this is a hard problem.
post here if real hard. get top help.

1996 geo tracker 4x4 needs speedometer cable replaces

read the part about AIR BAGS first....
the FSM is 100% free, (factory service manual)
the cable just disconnects at the trans, easy.
its the speedo side that tricky
96 has the side impact braces there, making tad more tricky.
the book is here

chapter 8c , page 6

DIY: page.

My 96 Geo tracker is spitting and sputtering and making popping noises.. What could be the issue and how expensive to fix?

cost can not be determined until the actual problem is know.
my guess. is the cam belt has slipped on this G16b engine
this also puts spark way retarded.
this happens when driven over 60,000 miles and not servicing
the cam belt.

or last mech left distributor clamp bolt , fully loose?
causing spark timing to be way off (check it first)
or far worse. (ill leave that out)

Can't get my 95 Geo Trackers 4WD to work. The indicator light works still but the wheels themselves won't engage. Can anyone plz help me out with what might be my problem?

For Trackers (and Sidekicks) of this era (1989 to 1998) the front axle locking device is a locking hub on each front wheel. (There are no actuators until the model change in 1999.) Locking hubs come in two flavors, Manual and auto locking hubs. A look at the from wheel should tell you what you have. Manual hubs have a knob like lever with the word "lock" and "free." Auto hubs say "Auto-Locking" right on them. Both types of hubs require servicing periodicity. (Normally annually.) This means removing and disassembling. Then cleaning and light greasing before reassembling. There are some good videos on the web on how to service the manual hubs. Auto hubs are a little harder to ensure they are working properly, but some people like them. (Not me.)

Please note two things:
1. Due to differential action, BOTH hubs need to be locked for any power to be applied to the front wheels.
2. Trackers of this era are PART TIME 4x4, NOT all wheel drive. They have nothing providing for different wheel speeds front to back like a center differential. This means they should NOT be used on non-slippery surfaces like dry pavement. Beside causing handling and braking issues, it can destroy your transfercase driving on dry pavement in 4x4 due to what is called "driveline wind up".

PLEASE if you do not understand this, look it up... if you still do not understand, ask and do not use the 4x4 until you do.

95 Tracker 1st to 2nd shift issue (automatic)

Would start by checking linkage or the cable that runs to tranny. Tranny fluid level is correct? Check fluid level first. Run 15-20 mins and check with motor warmed and running

correcting an old post.
Do not listen to the guessing persons. this car is a V belt car. all are, by Geo 1.6L 89-98 (1.8L Suz, different car and matter)
the 96 tracker is a 1.6L SOHC motor,
they are sold with and with out A/C or P/S. "options"
so are set up 4 different ways, ( i have the full 96 parts list)

try this.

How to change a water pump on a 96 geo tracker

if the pump was driven by the timing belt you probably installed the timing belt wrong, this is common if the cam and crankshaft pulleys are not lined up properly the base timing of the motor will be off. get the book(Haynes or Chiltons) and check your marks.
