I have an 02ford ranger 3.0 liter no start. New heads,coil,injectors,cmp,exhaust unhooked it acts like its put of time eng pulled everything verified. Thank you

have the crank sensor check for erratic operation. if you have done all of that then there is nothing else. and they way the computer knows it is misfiring (if it is) false code maybe and could be bad crank sensor. good luck

Are you sure you have correct timing? its definetly a fule problem, if timing is good then turn your key to the on position and try to listin for the fule pump to prime. While the key is in on position go to fuel rail, there is a valve on fule rail called sharader valve. Get a small screw driver and press valve in to check if car has fule pressure. if pressure is present then it is incorrect timing or possible bad cam sensor.

Lifters/car not starting


Do you have the 2.2 liter Ecotec 4-cylinder engine, the 3.5 liter V6, or the 3.9 liter V6 engine? If you have the 2.2 liter engine, there may be a camshaft/timing chain issue if you skipped a tooth when you put the chain back on the cams. If it's a 3.5 or a 3.9 liter V6, you may have incorrectly installed the push rods back into the engine. 3.5 liter intake push rods are approx 5 3/4" long, while the exhaust push rods are approx 6" long.
The 3.9 liter intake push rods are approx 5.81" long, while the exhaust push rods are approx 6.1" long. If you mix the two lengths up when you put them back in the engine, you're going to have problems.

I have a 1998 ford ranger with the 4.0 eng. which is failing emissions codes are po303, po304, po352, so I bought a new coil and put it in now the engine will not start. It will start to turn over then...


Well code 352 is for a problem with the primary circuit for the coil which could be several things other than the coil itself. You would need a shop manual to get the testing procedures. There's no distributor, so it could involve the cam or crank sensor, the engine computer, or the wiring.
Code 303 is for now power on cylinder 3 and 304 is no power on cylinder 4. In this case probably no spark.

Check this SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT - REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the ignition coils (lines at end this document), then return here once you have gotten the Coil
Packs off and precede with step 2 from here.
2. Clean the spark plug recesses with low pressure air. CAUTION: Wear safety glasses
when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury. NOTE:
Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so could
result in engine damage because of dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or
by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent
the proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any
contamination.
3. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. NOTE: Allow the engine to cool before
removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may
cause the plug threads to seize, causing damage to cylinder head threads.
4. Inspect the spark plugs.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Measure the spark plug gap on the spark plugs to be installed. Compare the measurement
to the gap specifications. NOTE:
• Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark
plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the vehicle. Installing
spark plugs of another type can severely damage the engine.
• Check the gap of all new and reconditioned spark plugs before installation. The
pre-set gaps may have changed during handling. Use a round feeler gage to ensure
an accurate check. Installing the spark plugs with the wrong gap can cause poor
engine performance and may even damage the engine.
2. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder head. NOTE:
• Be sure that the spark plug threads smoothly into the cylinder head and the spark
plug is fully seated. Use a thread chaser, if necessary, to clean threads in the
cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat the spark plug can cause
overheating of the plug, exhaust blow-by, or thread damage.
• Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the spark plugs to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).
3. Install the ignition coils.

IGNITION COIL(S) REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the oil pressure sensor (2).
3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) from the power steering pump (2).
4. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) from the following:
• The exhaust camshaft position (CMP) sensor (5)
• The camshaft position (CMP) actuator solenoid valve (6)
5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) from the camshaft cover (3).
6. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the following:
• The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) (5)
7. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
8. Carefully disengage the engine wiring harness conduit from the camshaft cover, and position aside.
9. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
10. Remove the ignition coils from the camshaft cover.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the ignition coils into the camshaft cover. IMPORTANT: Ensure the ignition coil seals are properly seated to the camshaft cover.
2. Install the ignition coil bolts. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Attach the engine wiring harness conduit to the camshaft cover.
4. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the intake CMP sensor.
5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:
• The ECT sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The HO2S (5)
6. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) to the following:
• The exhaust CMP sensor (5)
• The CMP actuator solenoid valve (6)
7. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) to the camshaft cover (3).
8. Connect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) to the power steering pump (2).
9. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the oil pressure sensor (2).
10. Install the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.

I have a 2000 Ranger with 4 litre v-6. Lately when I start it, it doesn't start the first time I crank it. It starts alright the next time. What would cause this situation?


Try a general tune up; new spark plugs ( properly gapped), new spark plug wires, new air filter, new oil and filter. The first thing I would do is run 2-3 bottles of injector cleaner though several takes of fuel and see if that clears the problem up. If the injector cleaner helps than it means you have alot of carbon buildup on your valves, piston heads, and spark plugs; if this is the case I would keep putting 1 bottle of injector cleaner in at every fillup for several months just to get rid of as much of the carbon as I could.

I have a 2005 ford ranger 3.0L with repetitive engine codes


these engines did have some exh valve issues, service bulletin 05-26-3. one other thing to verify is that the cam synronizer (CMP) is correctly installed. if its not right on, its way off.

My ranger 4.0 liter 92 is missing like its timing is off but i just put new plugs n wires but it only does it on takeoff and then it smells like it overloads on gas if any body might have some advice...


????Did it do this prior to you putting on those parts??? if NO- rechek the plug wires on the coil.....@ the connector side its 1-2-3....the other side is 5-6-4....frt to back...if this is correct then while running pull each plug wire and judge the amount of engine RPM drop per cylinder.(a tach is helpful).. if you have one cylinder with very little change it can be valves/piston/etc problem..... If all seems EVEN...then do the same with the injectors at every cylinder...It can be a bad injector also.....This should give you somesort of idea whats wrong...hope this helps you and thxs for the rating...GL
