Antifreeze leak

The hoses could seem ok but have tiny cracks in them that you can't see if they were not replaced. With antifreeze the flange the hose goes on could be rusting from antifreeze and cutting the hose. Cut the end of the hose past the clamp mark if there is enough slack. and put back on. The clamp could either be too tight and cutting the hose on the metal flange or not tight enough. Squeeze the hose and if you see cracking in the hose replace it. Also, if you over fill it it could be a problem or you got a bad radiator. If it is a tiny leak in the radiator you can use radiator stop leak. Check all the hoses and clamps and make sure the belt on the water pump is ok too. Good luck. They are a great car and worth the effort especially if you havea V6.

How to check for leaks of antifreeze/in 97 expedition smell of antifreeze

Hi Sharlene,so you smell antifreeze.Raise your hood and check your antifreeze over flow container, you should have a l and a h mark on it,high and low.If low, then it's leaking somewhere, look at the radiator cap and overflow hose for leak, look at over flow container for leak from hose going to it from radiator, look all over engine, look at top and bottom radiator hoses and clamps for leaks,if leaking there, tighten clamp with flat head screw driver,if no leak is found, get under vehicle and see if any antifreeze is visible, maybe water pump, look on ground for leak and follow, check floor board on driver side, heater core could be bad, check hoses going to heater core from engine firewall.

Antifreeze disapearing

If you don't see a leak, get it pressure tested. (The coolant system) If coolant is getting into the engine oil, it will destroy an engine quite fast!

Ok my car keeps over heating and i keep putting water into it only last bout 15 miles then overheats again and the water is disapearing i have a mazda mx6

Never put straight water in this will crack your heads. You should be putting the required antifreeze in you can buy the 50/50 mixed antifreeze for your car but find out if you take the old green or the new orange antifreeze. Also if your car is over heating then it might need a new thermostat or you have a leak in a hose that has rotted or your radiator is plugged up which it shouldn't if your car, has been cared for. The thermostat is around $10 at any auto parts store you can have them help you find the right one. And the thermostat is located in the main radiator hose that connects to the throttle body.

Top radiator hose collapses since a recent cooling system service. It has never done this before. The service manager says this is normal. Also they put in almost pure anti-freeze. What will this do?

Antifreeze should be mixed to a 50/50 solution. Never straight antifreeze.

It is possible that before your system was worked on it did not have the circulation to collapse the hose. Usually hoses would have a metal spring in them to maintain the shape of the hose or the hose would be molded with Ribs to strengthen the shape of the hose.
See if Autozone, Oreillys, or NAPA list a hose for your car and ask for one with Ribs on it. Get a cheap antifreeze gauge or let Autozone test the water for the mixture.
