You have to remove the dash to gain access to the heater core assembly. It is a big job .If you are not comfortable at lowering the steering column and setting the dash on the seats, don't try it.

2001 Ford Taurus No Heat I am having trouble with

possibly the bled door is stuck open so only the cold air from a/c works when on defrost vs closing to allow heat to cycle through the system as defrost runs through the a/c system

Location of Heater Core in a 2002 Ford Taurus

There was a question in this forum as to the location of the heater core on a 2002 Ford Taurus. Since I can't find who asked, the location is behind the dash so if you want to replace it you would have to remove the dash completely. A mechanic shop will charge you for a 2 day job approximately $700 to $800.

I have a 2001 ford taurus and the heat wont work and the temp guage will go up a little bit and go down could that be a heater core or something else.

if it was the heater core it would be leaking in floor board.if temp goes up or down that means your low on water or your thermostat is bad

No heat thermostat isopening and closing andfanis working sometimes you get a little barley warm air then it goes back to cold air also ck. eng. light is on

Ck Eng light probably not related.
The heater core is clogged. A bottle of cooling system "quick flush" may be all you need ($6 AutoZone).
There is also a complete flush system, but requires that you splice into the heater hose (I installed it on my Taurus - works great!).

By the way, there is a heater core bypass hose. It is connected to the two heater core hoses near the firewall. You may want to remove the two "Tee" fittings and use a 5/8" hose splicer so that the flush passes through the heater core at full force. Put the Tee's back in place after the flush.

If you remove the tee fittings and don't flush, the heater will work, but the core may eventually start leaking.

Heater core 2001 ford tauras

These are on of the hardest heater cores in the industry to replace. A typical garage will get between $800.00 and $1200.00 to replace, the dealer will get $1600.00 because you have to completely remove the steering column the dash, discharge the A/C system reomve the heater box, split it and replace the core. The job is so labor intensive you would be crazy not to replace the A/C evaporator at the same time. This is not a job for an amature or ever a class "B" tech. leave this one to the Pro's.
