No HEAT 96 Ford Explorer

Sometimes it does this and you might have heat when you go to work and when you go to leave there is no heat, if I mess pushing all the different buttons on the heater I can hear a pop sounds and then I have heat, it seems like there is something that closes and won't let the heat thru. I cannot ge it working this time. but I have plenty of cold air

So if the heat works and the blending door is stuck or bad, how do you replace the parts and what are they called. Also, can you test this before you rip the car apart?

I would guess your heater blend door is sticking. It is a rectangular door that moves back & forth to allow either cold air or hot air or a mix out of your vents. This is not an easy fix. But first be sure you heater hoses have hot water flowing in and out of the heater core. Under the hood you should find 2 hoses going into your firewall on the passenger side.

Heat not working

You likely have a defective air temperature control blend door and blend door electronic actuator. Since to repair this requires the dash to come out of the truck have the local dealer confirm the problem is the blend door.

Heater hot/cold control knob doesn't work need to have the hot air.

Check the motor on the top of the heater plenum. It turns a shaft to shift the blender door which controls the input to this plenum either the heater core or the evaporator core (ac). You may find the motor is OK but the shaft (plastic) has broken and the blender door has to be replaced. This is a costly job that involves removing this plenum after removing the dash. A shortcut I found online was to cut a hole under the blender door and replace it through this opening. After replacing you can seal up the hole with epoxy. I cut three sides of a square hole leaving the back uncut. Pull down and the blender door can be removed. My problem was on a 1997 Explorer. _6.gif

Ac controls for eletronic control

could be a problem with the blend door. common on explorers. open glove box all the way down (bend in tabs to where it will open further than normal) . take flashlight and look behind it to top of black box inside dash. should be able to see tab for door moving while changing the temp. on the control unit. if it is broken should be able to hear cracking or popping from inside heater case.

Heater fan does not come on in 96 explorer - rear heat fan works fine

could be a bad blower motor, switch or resister in the plenum case. Also, check fuses.
