I have replaced the tires and brakes. Also ball joints. Word is that it could be the wheel hub bearing. One person said it could be the axile. This noise gets louder as I speed up. Do you think it is the bearing?

Re: humming sound when driving
Hi there sounds if your wheel bearing is shot best way to find out is drive your motor & if you can either turn steering left or right when driving you will find that humming noise will probably disappear if it does then its your wheel bearing.

You probably have one or more bad ball joints in the steering on the front end. This truck should have grease zerks on the ball joints. If you greese everything and it gets quite, then it is the ball joints. However a WARNING. If the ball joint was squeaking and grinding, it should be replaced. Have a good mechanic check it out. Its hard to do yourself without the proper tools and knowledge. This is possibly a dangerous situation and something could come loose on the front end and you lose the ability to control the vehicle.
There are other possibilities, like snow and ice build up between the tires. Or bad wheal bearings. Jack the front end up, and rotate the wheels. They should spin freely with no noise. Next grap the wheel top and bottom. There should be no play.
If this is a four wheel drive vehicle it is a possiblility you have bad CV joints or universal joints which transfer power to the wheels. To check this, engage the 4x4, set the parking brake, and jack up the front end. Grap the wheel and try to rotate it, it should not move at all. . If the CV joints are out, you should be able to hear noise when you do this.
sounds like you have a warpped brake rotor, bad ball joint, or a bad tire. I would recommed taking the truck to a tire shop and have them shake down the front end that will tell you if its a tire or ball joint
Removal & Installation
This procedure requires the use of the following special tools: J 9519-E Lower Ball Joint Remover and Installer, J 34874 Booster Seal Remover/Installer, J 41435 Ball Joint Installer, J 45105-1 Ball Joint Flaring Adapter and J 45105-2 Receiver.
On 4WD vehicles, remove the wheel center cap and drive axle nut.
Raise and support the vehicle.
Remove or disconnect the following:
Tire and wheel
Wheel hub and bearing, if necessary
Outer tie rod retaining nut
Out tie rod from the steering knuckle using a suitable puller
Brake hose bracket retaining bolts and bracket
Upper control arm-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt and nut
Upper control arm from the steering knuckle
Lower ball joint retaining nut
Steering knuckle from the lower control arm using a suitable ball joint removal tool
Steering knuckle from the vehicle
Lower ball joint flange with a chisel
Install tools J 9519-E and J 34874 to the lower ball joint, then use those tools to remove the lower ball joint from the lower control arm.
Install or connect the following:
Lower ball joint to the lower control arm, using tools J 9519-E, J 41435 and J 45105-2
Remove the tools from the lower control arm.
Tools J 9519-E and J 45105-1 to the lower ball joint
Flare the lower ball joint flange with J 9519-E and J 45105-1, then remove the tools from the lower ball joint.
Steering knuckle to the lower control arm
Lower ball joint retaining nut and tighten to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm)
Upper control arm to the steering knuckle
Upper control arm pinch bolt and nut and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm)
Brake hose bracket to the steering knuckle
Brake hose bracket retaining nuts and tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm)
Outer tie rod to the steering knuckle
Outer tie rod retaining nut and tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
Wheel hub and bearing, if removed
Tire and wheel
Lower the vehicle
Drive axle nut, if 4WD, and tighten to 103 ft. lbs. (140 Nm)
Chevrolet has a common problem with integral hub and wheel bearings wearing due to exessive use or lack of lubrication, the balls or rollers and races become pitted ,scored or just plain damaged which will infact cause a loud humming or growling noise. I have had some humm at about the same speed but usually they will start to make noise at any speed. I would have to hear the noise to be sure cause there are many things to cause a humming noise like odd tire wear, bad idler pully bearings, e.t.c. the tires should be lifted checked for excessive play in the bearing. Take tire off depress brake piston in just enough secure brake rotor use stethoscope spin hub while listening. maybe he replaced wrong side seen that alot, seen tire noise mistaken for bad bearing to if struts or shocks are worn can cause tires to be choppy. I would recommend taken back 300 dollars is alot of money to not fix your problem.
sounds like a bad wheel bearing..if drum brakes,remove drum and center cap from wheel bearing..remove center nut and pull bearing from spindle..replace hub/bearing assembly and center nut..if disc brakes,remove caliper/rotor,and hub/bearing assembly
it should come out once you have disconnected:Brakes,strut,ball joint.tire rod end,cv joint!if it is not put the cv joint nut back on until safe enough to give it a tap with hammer to knock back & out shaft this should come as one piece HUB the bearing is pressed in! better to change whole HUB good luck this hopefully helped you out!
