Oldsmobile Intrigue front end howl

My car has a howling noise in the front end. It's not really bad but is noticeable. I had a flat tire a couple of weeks ago and it seems much worse since replacing the tire. Is this something I should worry about? What could possibly be causing the noise?

Need more info...front end you say... A particular side? Is replaced tire the same as other 3 tires? hear it while driving, or braking, or both? Hear it more steering left or right or going around a corner?

Could be a front wheel/hub bearing is my only guess at this point. Howling or groaning could also mindicate a transmission problem.

Front driver's side, the replacement tire is the same as the other front tire, but the back two are a couple years older. I hear it mostly when I go faster on the freeway (say over 70 km/h). I don't notice it more when steering or braking.

Hmm, well i'm stumped, sorry. A howling at over 45mph. ?? Have a mechanic take a test drive. Could be a wheel bearing.

Thanks robcal99. I already had an appointment booked with a mechanic, I guess what I was really looking for was whether I needed to get it sooner rather than later. I also like to go in with some idea of what might be going on so I don't get whitewashed.

Have you checked you tire closely.Change it with the one on the other side and see if the sound transfer to that side.

Howling noise while driving

That could be anything from tires to differential or even a driveshaft carrier bearing on your Vette. The best thing to do is to see if it will make the noise while running it on a lift. If it does not, then the noise is most likely tire-related. If it does, then you can use a mechanic's stethescope to determine the source of the noise.

The first thing I would check is for a bad wheel bearing. If the noise lessens when turning left than I would look at the left front first. Chalk the rear wheels or set the emergency brake. Put the transmission in neutral. Jack up the left side of the car. Grab the coil spring and rotate the tire by hand. If you can feel/hear the noise than your on the right track with the bad wheel bearing. I can give you instructions on how to replace if you need them.

as stated above, check the transfer case fluid level, also check the fluid in the front and rear differentials, make sure it is full and clean. if the howling still exists it can also be caused by hub bearings, or differential bearings.
