Question about 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante
It did this before and it turned out the battery was bad but I also replaced the starter even though I was told it probably was not the starter but the battery itself. It's been fine and always crank. This morning it just did the same thing as before and would not crank. It did not even start with a jump!

try holding down the throttle all the way when starting (thinking it might be flooded from overpumping the accelerator)
remember the computer automatic puts a shot of fuel in the car when you try to start (no need to pump)

you don't hit the alternator, you hit the starter to help is shake free because it is already going bad. take battery and alternator to parts store and have both tested. check the wires at the starter and make sure they are on SECURELY. very important SOLID CONTACT is occurring. do your lights turn on? check starter relay if the eclipse is equipped with one.

Check the IAC valve...or sometimes known as an electronic choke. That valve is how your engine gets air when the throttle body plate is closed. If the valve is stuck due to malfunction or carbon build up then it will cause that problem, and give you a rough idle at best.
