Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

Open Question

2000 ford windstar sliding door latch is rusted shut

I was told that the door lock assembly latch was rusted and needed to be replaced. They said the motor worked fine. Ive been quoted $150 from Ford and $500 somewhere else saying this part is sold as a set? Is this something we can fix on our own? Can I turn the automatic door into a manual door and bypass this problem? The door tries to open but cant either with the button or maunal. Thank you.

SOURCE: 2000 Ford Focus automatic door locks quit working.

check fuse 63 first.

Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical

  • Binding latch mechanisms
  • Binding linkage
  • Misaligned door
  • Central junction box fuse 63 (20A)
  • Damaged wiring harness
  • Loose or corroded connection(s)
  • Circuit
  • Door lock switch
  • Door lock actuator

It could also be your GEM (generic electronic module) which is expensive as it controls a lot of stuff. A scan tool can be used to cehck for fault codes from the GEM.

SOURCE: Problem with door locks on 2000 Ford Windstar. You

You need to get a can of penetrating spray (WD-40) or similar, and spray inside the lock/latch mechanisms. Use the little red nozzle and make sure you get in behind it, down the side etc, to loosen up linkages. It may take a little work, and a couple of sprays, but keep working them manually until they free up, then start using power locks as well. Once they are working good, get a spray can of white lithium grease or similar, and give them a coat of that as well, sprayed all over the backside, and down the sides as well, to prevent/deter same happening again.

Sounds like the mechanism inside the door has come off, should be a rod and clip that holds it to the latch.

My sliding door is locked and won't open. There is a u-shaped mechanisim inside the sliding area that the door lock is catching on, how do I release this?

you can try a screw driver, it is the actual latch that you are talking about, I am assuming that you have the panel off, so trace it back to the handle or handle to latch whichever is easiest and see why it is not catching/working. The cable/rod may have lost it's keeper.

The two rear doors on my new 2000 Ford Excursion will not lock. They do not lock when you press lock nor can you push them down to lock them.

Door latch inside door may be rusted, you can try taking off the door panels and spraying some penetrating fluid in them and working the lock rods manually and brake them free. The more likely fix may be to just replace them though. It is also possible that you need power door lock actuators also.In some cases, the actuator and latch are one in the same.

The driver door lock does not work.

there is a black plastic module inside the door connected to the latch assembly, its not the easiest job to take out the latch assembly so that u can remove the plastic modle which just slides off and the new one slides on. u might want a shop to do this job, good luck to u!

'03 windstar left sliding door lock operates inconsistently. Replaced lock motor. Only slight improvement if any.

Hi
Have you checked the catch rather than the lock mechanisim? sometimes if the latch is not alaigned correctly then the lock will struggle at times to open it.
Ensure the latch is perfectly lined up and Use WD-40 on any suspect sticky parts to free them off.

Dan

The door is not catching to lock the door shut. Find where it is not catching and see if theres a blockage or if something is broken.

Where are the kiddy locks on a 2000 Ford Windstar SEL Van

on the sliding doors, next to the latch when the door is open, there will be a tiny switch that you have to flip. It may also be a hole in the door with a symbol that you have to slide your key into to engage or disengage it
