I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee I have a transmission problem ? Oh it's a 4.0 6 cilinder code comes up with po704?

the book is free, but pdf searched not.
i have a pile of ZJ jeep FSM books, factory
searches find no 704, (no such animule, pun)
so what scan tool produced this gem.?
P)7xx means transmission.
is this a 42 or 44RE trans?
my guess is you typed it wrong, and is really P0740
close but no cigar, no?
at least get DTC typed clear or all bets off, yah?

means SM quotes:
"Torq Conv Clutch, No RPM Drop At Lockup
and
Relationship between engine speed and
vehicle speed indicates no torque converter
clutch engagement."

ME :
in reality, what does it really, mean
the silly puter, (TCM) does simple math
it takes Engine RPM minus TAIL RPM
and subtracts them just after the lock command goes out.
and if no change? then the TCC "SYSTEM"
is DEAD.
the change must be a table listed. RPM drop.
deferentially , if not?, TC clutch lock is bad.

what does clutch mean,. TCC is is for sort.
that means.
checks: by tech, with meters.
TCM output bad, to clutch solenoid
or
that is ok but the solenoid is jammed
SOL, coil ohms read infinity its bad.
nor if that is good the solenoid hydr. valve is leaking or stuck
and not sending hydra, pressure to the actual lock.
or the actual lock is bad.

that is what it really means.
a tech then does tests to find out if the problem is in
the TCM output driver (dead) or wire from it to trans, box. cut or RUSTY.
if in the trans box, he tests the solenoid
if the solenoid is ok, then the lock is bad.
We make sure the trans box, ground is not bad.

Fix locked brakes. My brakes have locked up/seized, how do get it unlocked?

check that the brake reservoir is not overfull ( past the full line)
remove cap and bleed excess fluid out
bleed the brake lines to relieve the pressure
replace the faulty brake master cylinder ( blocked compensating ports )

Car goes in reverse but won't go in drive fills like something sticking in rear

A/T tranny"drive"
are the brakes iced over.?? i can't know this. only you.

if not, ice, then tranny is sick
get help

do you have a dash tachometer? RPM?
this instrument tells you what is wrong,
1: Tacho RPM buzzes high bad tranny.
2: tacho rpm sticks at say 2000rpm not running free with right foot action that means the breaks are locked up with ice or hand brake is ON.

2001 kia sephia slips out of gear. Trouble codes P1500, P1624, P0740.

Low fluid or too much ATF? (foaming it up and killing bearings)

p07xx is tranny DTC codes. (errors)
TCC lockup failure. (the TCM commanded the lock and
the tail shaft sensor did not rise in RPM
that is the engine RPM does not match tail RPM or 1:1 ratio.
which is LOCK ratio.

1500 is speed sensor , reads wrong,
No Vehicle Speed Signal to TCM.

1624 means.
MIL Request Signal from TCM to ECM.
the means simply the Tcm SAW and error and sent that error up stream to ECM. creating 1500.
remember the ECU never knows what part is bad.
NEVER ! it only knows, the tests failed. (monitors)
the first thing i do is find out which VSS failed.
on some cars there are 2 to 5
the first speed sensor is RPM does the scan tool show correct engine RPM? y/n
if yes,
does the scan-tool show correct MPH? sensor 2.
y/n if not fix that first.
the TCM function (tranny brain must not be lied to, in this order)
engine RPM , MPH.
and last the tranny its self as VSS (rpm) sensors. 1 to3.
my guess, (too lazy to look it up) has 1 sensor on the tranny tail.
if all is good and 1500 means VSS 2 tranny tail is fibbing.
then its one of 3 things.
(all others good)REMEMBER the TCM does comparisons to all speed sensors to shift the car correctly so the front sensor count first. then last the rear.
VSS2 lies. this is bad bad tranny (slips) bad wires to VSS2 or bad VSS2.
most TCM go to limp home when the tranny slips to stop burning up the clutch packs. may skip gears too.

now what does slips out of gear mean. a neutral FLARE?
or down shifts,
if the tranny ever slips. this is bad news.
if it does slip 1500 is only the warning that it did
it say RPMs go out of control and threw 1500 pronto.

Try to think(sic) like a TCM what would you do if the tranny malfs.
answer, throws codes.
and goes to limphome, if necessary, (FSM show these facts)
so does alldata dot com
what i do is try to get tranny to slip. using all gears.
if it slips ,its bad.
The TCM can not run a slipping tranny.
the TC does slip, but the TCM has that all figured out. (modeled)
not locked, and locked it must not.
good luck and do ask questions.

05 Suzuki XL7 wouldnt sart. Then started and idled up to 3000 rpm and back down. Batt light, air bag light, ck engine light, and 4wd flashing. In reverse it accelerated on its own. Depressed gas pedal in...

id go for chicken feet and blood and voodoo , sessions.....loL

first off, i see an illegal fast idle ,
and all A/T trannys do that, when the engine rpm fraks up.
to move car, due to the stall speed rules of the clutch torque converter (aka ,the fluid clutch) wiki clutch stall speed.

that A/T weakness, is why folks run over kids. (the lame excuse)
starting a car with foot off the brake is , folly, thus the lock all outs called park lock features.

i can not follow your sequence of events.so will ask questions.
1: I start the engine, its don't want to but does. (ever tune it up?)

2: Does the CHECK engine lamp go out (CEL/SES)? running.
for sure, if the engines stalls many lights will glow in the cluster but that is normal, see? for any stall.!
The Charge light comes on anytime the Alternator goes dead
or hits near 0 RPM (stalled)
so are you saying at 3000 rpm, the charge lamp came on.
/??????
battery lamp is not battery, its really a Charge lamp.
the op guide states that too.
on my car I have a battery gauge too, and shows VOLTS.
at idle its 14v. its 14v at all rpm. if less, say so.
I have 2004. GV. with full manuals. even factory FSM. ++++++

ok , in drive, no acceleration, are you saying ,
1: im in A/T drive.
2: the engine is idling at 800 RPM hot or near 1500 cold
3000 is wrong, dead wrong, you in ALASKA, state location(gen)

i increase the RPM with my right foot and the car don't move
in DRIVE
as RPM rises above 1500 RPM, you do have a tacho , i see that.
if it does not move with hgher RPMs, the trans is bad or its TCM is bad.
on your car the TCM is hidden deep inside the PCM. back in 1997.

the PCM runs the engine and tranny today.
if something lies to the TCM/PCM the tranny will not go into drive.
on newer 96+ cars, you see the check engine lamp glow.
running (not stalled, stalling this CEL glows all the time)
but running, the CEL glowing means Faults found, scan me,. please.
eg:
so you scan it, and find DTC's stored (many?) eg.... in english...
the transmission selector switch is bad. or worse.
not using a scan tool ,means ($7 cost) means you miss all the facts. hard cold real facts.
the ECU can not shift any car with a bad selector switch.
so throws the DTC error.
it can be even be a loose selector cable, cave man simple.

recap.
does the CEL lamp stay out running at all times.
no, ? then scan it.
do not post car problems with stored, or pending DTCs on any car newer than 1995. or its just wild guessing.. mostly.

Is the RPM gauge and the transmission connected for a 2001 chevy impala? The Anti light brakes and traction control light turn on. Now the transmission does seem to shift properly and the RPM gauge moves.

Anti lock brakes and traction controls will light if there is too much tire pressure differential. That mean a low tire turns more rpm in a mile than a full tire so it constantly thinks it is slipping in either /both taking off or braking... Tire pressure is important. Check it!

Transmission / RPM

These cars have a lock up torque converter meaning 4 gear going above 35 to 40 MPH, the engine and transmission lock together and turn at the same rate. I know that older GM cars had a plug that needed to be plugged into the transmission for the lock function to work on the torque converter and if you unplugged it the RPM's would run high as you describe. I have never had a 1999 Silhouette and I'm not 100% sure that these cars have that type of plug but it sounds like that type of problem. I agree with you. You know your car and I would take it to a transmission mechanic and describe your problem to them.

Good luck!
