1999 Ford Explorer- Battery gauge dropps, lights dim, then return

Recently when I was driving to work, my lights dimmed, CD player shut off, and the battery gauge dropped. This lasted for about 5 seconds. My vehicle didn't turn off. Then out of nowhere the CD started playing again, lights brightened, and battery gauge was on the rise. I checked my alternator, starter, and just put a new battery in it. Everything tested well above average, and connections are good with no corrosion. Could this be a problem with the ignition switch? Thank you for your help!

Theres a simple way to check the alternator on a car all you have to do is take the pos cable off while the car is running and it stays running then its good...if it dies its bad. you could have a problem with your ignition but not likely...its going to be between the battery and the alternator.

I believe that the alternator brushes could be going bad...if this happens again take your alternator off and take it to an electric shop and have it tested

have all the wiring checked.there are alot of wires disconnected in a transmission removal.
alot of technicians are not careful enough and ground wires get broken,or not hooked up again to properly cleaned terminals.

Battery died, gauge cluster bulbs on dimly, now rough idle result

How much have you driven vehicle? You need to drive long enough for computer to reset refrence points onboard. If that does not work, you have a bad voltage limiter on your instrument cluster board!

Guages stop and irratic idle with dimming lights

what probley happened the alternator started to heat up alittle to much and caused the belt to spin on the pulley i would go ahead and get the alternator replaaced as soon as possible. as for the lights dimming and the gauges not working you was running off your battery making the vehicle mess up i would also get your battery checked while your at it.

Battery voltage/rough idle

you need to have the altinator checked while under a load. if its checked with no load on it then it will test ok. in other words you have a altinator that is going bad.

I would check the ignition switch, they are know for separating and causing issue's like this one, Ford recalled many of them, but the Explorer was not on the list, though it uses the same switch as the recalled cars..

I believe that you said originally that your dash also goes"dead" like does the voltmeter drop and all the guages?
If so I would suspect a main wire that feeds the ignition Switch.
But having said that I wish I knew if you were loosing spark or fuel Have you gone to rhe fuel tank and wiggled the harness there? Would you call me So I might talk to you about this in the mean time Ill look in my database and see if I find any old repairs that might relate
