Question about 1996 Honda Civic

Oil light flashing here and there..weird

I have a Honda civic 1.6 ls auto on a N reg. A while ago, my car was overheating and the oil light was flickering ect. I took it to a garage and he said my engine was f..... but the car was driving fine when i picked it up and no signs of engine damage and oil and water wasnt mixing and no oil leeks and engine management light hasnt come on whatsoever . I took it for a second check and the guy said the engine was fine and the thermostat needed changing. After that the car was fine and over heating stopped and the oil light went off. After driving for two days, the oil light come back on again but car is still fine and aint over heating..why is the oil light on again? could it be oil switch or is the engine on its last legs? A answer would be fantastic. Cheers

Is it getting noisy... that's usually the first clue... to rule out anything serious have the oil pressure checked.

  1. Edit Step 15 ¶ When it's time to change the oilin your Civic, the maintenance light (orange wrench) will appear on your dash, as well as a B1 message, showing an oil life of 15% or less. To reset the Oil Life % gauge, press and hold the SEL/RESET button for about 10 seconds until the Oil Life message begins to flash.

I have a 1997 Honda Civic with about 158,000 miles on it. I get it serviced regularly - oil changes, etc. this morning driving in my malfunction indicator light came on. I am concerned about what this...

Hi:
There are hundreds of reasons a MIL will illuminate, and the only way to find out what caused it is to have the code downloaded off of the computer. Usually auto parts stores, such as Auto zone, will do this for free. Then you can figure out what caused the code, and work towards fixing the problem!

I have a 2005 honda civic and the maintenance light came on, is that an oil change indicator ?

No, it's not for the oil change. Get a automotive electrician to connect to the car's computer to see what error it will return to know what needs a fix.

1994 Honda Civic oil light flashing and loud noise coming from the head always kept well maintained oil always kept full and changed regularly

It is more than likely your oil pump. pull off valve cover have some one start car and see if oil is purging then turn off. If no oil flow it is pump.

I own a m reg 95 model civic. The car is overheating steam is coming out of the radiator. I tested the cooling fan and it does not seem to come on when the engine is hot. HELP!

I hate to say it but you might have blown a head gasket. Try this- in the morning/anytime, (cold engine) pop the hood and remove the radiator cap. Start the engine. If it bubbles/blows out antifreeze- yep, blown head gasket. Most people think you'll have water in your oil if you do have a blown head gasket. It can blow 2 ways. Exhaust gases into coolant passage (your case) or vise versa (hince the water/antifreeze in oil). Try that- lemme' know
