It sounds like the selector has jumped out of it slide in first gear so it is still engaged , , take the cover off the box and slide first gear back to neutral , check for damage to the gear stick and repair or it will happen again , refit the cover.
sounds like its bulk rings in gear box, they spin the gears ready as u change gear when they wear the gears are not spun enough to select u probably need to over hall gear box , to help u change gear for now double d clutch, whats this as u want to change gear push clutch down move out gear release.. clutch pushdown again put in to gear use this with each gear un need to change what this does is spin gear ready for u as if bulk ring had done it for u if u are good u can just change gear but have to b good for this
When a 5-spd gearbox cannot hold reverse, this means either:
* Worn or mal-adjusted Shift Linkage
or
* Weak Shift Rail Spring
If after having the Shift Linkage adjusted the reverse gear still pops out , then you may be facing some more costly work in your gearbox. Depending on the quote to repair your existing box, it may actually be cheaper to fit a 2nd hand one.
Good luck..

It sounds like the car has a safety system that won't allow it to come out of park unless the brake is pushed down. Sometimes those switches break and have to be replaced.Hope this helps, James Booth
hi are you saying you canno select 1st gear?? but able to select other gears and drive car ok ? your clutch is auto hydraulic adjust if you could offer more info on 1st gear unable select? it would give a better picture of what may be your problem? at the moment its sound like selector problem?
even i had the same problem but try to take off ur AT oil and take off the filter of the AT gear box for this u can screw off the nuts of the sump of the AT gear box and then take the filter off and replace it by another then before replacing the filter keep the gear box to draw off all the oil which was there and then eplace it and put new gear oil
run the engine for a while about 4-5 days and again put on to a dignoser and reset the gear box settings
i think this will work
